I love Douglass. I have had 2 children graduate from Douglass, 1 child and 1 niece are still attending. For the most part staff are responsive to emails and for the very few who aren’t administration will support with getting a response. Douglass has a family feel environment. Most of the students are friendly. There are plenty of extra curricular activities afterschool. My children have participated in art/anime club, photography club, yearbook, wrestling, football, and the positive outlook club. Two of them learned to play instruments, piano and guitar. Compared to other schools in the county there are minimum altercations or violence. Safety is not a concern nor has ever been a concern for any of my children. There are a variety of courses available to meet students’ needs. My 3 children are very different and found various activities, course, sports and staff members to connect with. One of my children graduated with 25 college credits with dual enrollment. My favorite sports team at Douglass is the wrestling team. The coaches are great and really treat the students with love, respect and care. They focus on building character while simultaneously improving wrestling skills at a fast rate.

I firmly believe that all children have the capacity to learn and grow academically, and all children have the right to a high quality education that is immersed in rigorous practices and reaches the levels of exponential excellence. This sentence is the foundation of my philosophy and is the catalyst for why I wanted to be in education. In an ever changing World, it is our duty to make sure that our children have the necessary skills, tools and knowledge they need in order to be vibrant, productive citizens of tomorrow. Through a level of rigor that will not only challenge our children academically, but also stimulate them to think outside of the box can we as Melwood educators guarantee that our children will be ready for the challenges to come. As principal, it is my passion to build, model and empower educators so that they can un-tap the secrets deep within our scholar’s minds.As Melwood’s instructional leader I am accountable to my scholars, practitioners and you for developing, articulating, and implementing a vision of learning that is shared by all. I promise to provide instructional leadership through transparency and by monitoring and aligning curriculum and instruction through the purposeful alignment to PGCPS’ ‘Promise of 2020’. If you don't want your child to be bullied if you want a teacher to listen to you and your concerns about your kids safety do not send them to James Madison Middle School in Upper Marlboro Maryland possible is horrible they lie and hide thing nurse is horrible security horrible please as a parent do not send your kids to the school it's in your School boundary do not send them there get a special transfer I had five kids go to this school horrible experience
