Description

This property is no longer available to rent or to buy. This description is from August 26, 2022
Located adjacent to the cherry-blossom-lined streets of the Kenwood neighborhood, and perched upon two private acres of lush landscape, this incomparable, seven-bedroom, 11-bath, architectural masterpiece offers the best of all worlds, including a secluded, resort-like setting located within a 10-minute walk to downtown Bethesda. With a luxurious, main-level, primary suite, three fireplaces, a three-car garage, an indoor pool with dual showers and dressing areas, a professional-size putting green, a media room, two hobby workshops, and a coat room for large-scale entertaining, this extraordinary property is already beyond compare. But the true beauty of this home is the thoughtful balance of casual and elegant, voluminous and intimate, contemporary and timeless, and its ability to comfortably host a few dozen guests for a formal dinner party or a dozen kids for a birthday celebration. This house lives large but functions beautifully on both levels. A clear sense of entry into the home is instantly established by the gentle curve of an elegantly arched window on the front façade that echoes a similar, two-story arched window on the back of the home; both flood the interior with natural light. The back of the house is constructed almost entirely of glass, which provides sweeping vistas of the pristine and polished landscape. Except for storage areas and a pair of powder rooms, every space of the house has an outdoor view. The meticulously manicured and maintained grounds are verdant and vast, and just as suitable for displaying sculptural artwork as they are for hosting garden parties and family gatherings. Inside, voluminous yet graceful proportions mingle with contemporary and classic details. A two-story foyer includes a gracefully curved double staircase that leads to the lower level. Soaring, light-color walls, juxtaposed by the warmth of the wood floors, make the interior spaces feel open and airy—almost cloud-like—and offer an optimal setting for displaying an art collection. Four bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, reside on the upper level along with a laundry area and a dry bar with refrigerator. The lower level includes an above-grade, two-bedroom suite with a kitchenette and separate entrance, ideal for providing personal space to visiting guests, in-laws or an au pair. Large expanses of glass doors in the living room, family room and pool area on the main level provide fabulous views as well as easy access to the sizable terrace and the stunning green spaces beyond. The living room is the perfect setting for more informal functions, while the substantial yet cozy dining room lends itself to everything from swanky soirees, casual meals or candlelit dinners for two. Open all the glass doors at once and the indoor and outdoor spaces become one while enjoying an easy, breezy circular flow, essential for effortless entertaining and everyday living. At the end of the day, owners can retreat to the primary suite, which enjoys its own separate wing on the main floor. Along with a fireplace and two generously sized bathrooms with adjacent walk-in closets, this spectacular sanctuary also includes a private terrace from which to enjoy a nightcap, or a book, while listening to the cicadas softly sing before heading to sleep. Whether you are hosting dinners in the dining room, cocktails on the terraces, enjoying a dip in the pool, reading by the fireplaces or simply watching the sunset, this home offers a serene and private oasis where you will feel insulated from the bustle of the city, which is only a short stroll away.

"Bethesda is a great neighborhood. Unfortunately the small business owners are being pushed out by the the larger corp. that have bought up so much real estate. Rents are very high and commercial rent is as well. Sadly it is slowly losing its neighborhood charm and it will soon look like every other cookie cutter block with all the same large corporation businesses. There is a homeless shelter that’s not well advertised on Cordell ave & Wisconsin Ave so you will see people begging for money on the regular. Great access to I459, the Metro and DC if that’s seen as a plus for you. "

"I have lived in this neighborhood for about 4 years. This is a great area with excellent access to I495, DC and VA. Unfortunately the area is changing. All of the Mom & Pop places are slowly being pushed out and the same old big box companies are moving in. Tons of new building are going up over night here. A bit pricy. It’s a great place put you definitely pay for it. "
