- Booker T. Washington Middle School
1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'd like to give the school a higher rating because of the attentiveness and obvious care the principle and teachers feel for the kids at Booker T., because of the massive behavior problems at this school I can't give it a higher score. There are opportunities available at this school that are not available at other schools in the area but those programs are completely taken for granted by the students. There are a lot of violent behavior problems at this school. A lot of time is taken away from the teachers by disruptive students, the students that want to learn suffer. The teachers care, the principle works very hard to improve conditions and does the best she can under the circumstances, but neither she or the teachers can fix the inherent problems of the neighborhood. The music and art programs are here, but there is just too much time devoted to keeping the students in line. The school has great support staff that communicate well with parents. Teacher communication is dependent on the teacher, the teachers that do keep in contact are typically the ones with better success with the students. After school help is available as well as many extracurricular activities.Parent Review8y ago

- Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is a complete mess. I try to call the staff, they never answer you or call you back for things like my child's IEP. Like, I would never send my child here again. I have made the big mistake ever in my life and my child's.Parent Review7y ago

- Patterson High School
1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI think Patterson high shcool has wonderful teachers and office staff. The teachers go out of their way to help the students achieve their goals. The only problem I see is some ot the students are disrespectful and to me that is sad, becuase they are only hurting theimselves. Other then that I think patterson can be a successful school if the students would be more serious about thier education and have respect for themselves and others.Parent Review8y ago

- Northwestern High School
1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am happy to no longer have my child at this school. It is not a safe environment. The principal is terrible and the secretary can be unpleasant to deal with. I went to the principal with a concern about bullying (agressive behavior) and being in a safe environment.. The school dont care and i had a lady councilors ( with dreads) she acked like a former gang member) she had students that she was close to and said she understand fighting sometimes) what the heck! I found out doors had been left open and teachers didn't carry keys. When I asked about the consequence for a child that pushed a child in the hall way or a child that threw things in the class and hit another student, she didn't give me a response that answered my question. I found out both children where allowed in the classroom soon after the events. The school tolerates aggression in the classrooms and the hall ways are like play grownds, My child is also happy to be in new schools. If you live in the city, don't send your child here, pay for private school if you can but Nothwestern High Is by far the worst high in the WORLD!Parent Review7y ago

- Frederick Douglass High School
1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFrederick Douglass is an amazing school. We miss Dr. Hurt but still moving forward. This will not affect the direction the school's going in. My child is apart of the early college program and have excelled in many ways from the program. It's good to hear my son share that his teachers are serious about him passing. Parents at Douglass stay involved with your child so they can benefit from the amazing programs at Douglass.Parent Review7y ago

- Benjamin Franklin High School @ Masonville Cove
2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI can't argue with the reviews that appear before this one chronologically. However, I can say that with a change of administration, and a near-complete turnover of teaching staff, Ben Franklin has come a VERY long way over the last two years. The school is being renovated and looks much better, behavioral incidents are far below previous levels in both frequency and intensity, and there's a level of pride in there that I haven't seen in years. BFHS is now offering AP courses to students and both the test scores and the graduation rate is up. If you're into sports, there are lots of teams you can join. BFHS is a school that works very hard to customize the education to the student rather than the other way around. Definitely a school worth considering.Other Review8y ago

- Reginald F. Lewis High School
2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageExpressing. I received a letter that my son Thomas had to attend summer school, which was confusing due to the tutoring sessions I obtained so this wouldn't take affect. I contacted Reginald F. Lewis High School as a concerned parent on June 18, 2014, and spoke with Mrs. A., a ninth (9th) and tenth (10th) grade teacher that confirmed our son had passed all his classes. I want to say thank you to the two ladies that were very helpful and kind in resolving this issue and expressing our son's tenth grade (10th) advancement in August 2014. I've been so confident in our son's educations when he arrived to Reginald F. Lewis in January 2014. Once again thank you, enjoy your summer and looking forward to seeing the staff once again at the beginning school year for our son's 10th grade teachings and learnings.Parent Review7y ago
