6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am the extremely proud principal of Stearns Elementary and have been since 2017. This school is small but mighty. The staff here are the most dedicated professionals I have ever worked with. They take professional learning extremely seriously and are always looking for ways to best reach their students. They collaborate on a daily basis and support each and every child, not just those in their classrooms. Each child is greeted by name as they enter the building every morning and celebrated each month during our whole school Gatherings. We celebrate differences that make us unique. We have the only co-taught model in Berkshire County where every classroom from Kindergarten through Grade 5 has a special education teacher, a general education teacher and a paraprofessional working alongside one another all day to support the learning needs of every child. We pride ourselves in small group, targeted instruction at each child's ability level. The academic as well as social emotional gains of students is truly spectacular. I have an open door policy for all caregivers and community members to share ideas to better our school community and we love sharing our success stories with those who love us. We can't wait to meet you! Welcome to the family :)Principal Review1y ago - John T Reid Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is great. This is coming from someone who has seen and been on many of the things the school can offer, such as theatrical productions, the football team, the track team, etc. I would say that the academics are good. Most of my classes are very advanced and I learn everything I need to know. The only thing I can't speak for is the lower level classes. I am also in the vocational program. Although it uses lots of older equipment, one can expect the already good vocational programs to excel when the new school is built. Taconic is a vocational school, and there will be new shops (And most likely new equipment in them) when the new school is built, along with many other benefits. Many of the negative comments are from 2007, with the newest being from 2013; they are outdated, from times when there were different students and staff members. The students who pay attention in class almost always succeed, even if it requires lots of help from the teacher. The kids here who get bad grades normally just don't care about doing well.Basically, if you want to do well here, you probably will. If your goal is just to survive high school, you probably will. However, if you try, you can and hopefully will excel here, and you probably will have fun doing it. You should take advantage of the many extracurricular activities, and enjoy every moment of them. All of the extra things I was skeptical about turned out to be really fun and thoroughly satisfying. This school deserves a much higher rating than it has. Right now as I write this, the school has a 3 out of 10 rating, but I think it should have at least a 6 or 6.5 out of ten, and at most an 8 or 8.5. Maybe I am just lucky, maybe I have a better time than the average person here, but with everything considered, I can gladly say that it really is a good school.
