6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have two children that have went to Cowan since kindergarten. One is in 6th grade and the other is a 4th grader. This is an excellent school. The teachers are wonderful. They care about their students and their grades. Some come in early or stay late to help with certain subjects. The principal is very hands on. He knows all of the students and strides to make Cowan the best it can be. He is always there to talk to parents and he is always willing to meet you at your earliest convenience. The teachers very passionate about teaching. This school has high standards and I would recommend them to any age group. The classes are small sizes so your child will get plenty of attention and will not be lost in the crowd. I totally disagree with the 4 Great school rating. If it were true my children wouldn't go there. "It's a good day to be a blackhawk!"Parent Review9y ago - Cowan High School

"I've lived in this neighborhood for 12 years it is a great area, yes there are some thief's , you'll get that anywhere, for the most part it is quiet and quaint. I'm looking to buy a home and if I can't find one in the country I'll try my best to stick to this neighborhood. It's in walking distance to Walmart, and Southside Middle school along with the other shops around Walmart, The Greenway trail is right behind the houses on Meeker Ave. Pet Friendly, Kids are starting to come back into the neighborhood , for a while it was mainly adults. I just love living in this area. "

"I have lived in this neighborhood for 42 years and most of my neighbors have also lived here for over 42 years. Neighbors are friendly and can borrow a cup of sugar or an egg. Great place to raise a family. You can leave your car doors unlocked. "

"I drive my own car around. Drives can be a little tense during rush hours or break hours for work. Avoid Bethel and McGalliard during peak hours"

"The neighborhood that existed 30plus years ago was great. Every house had kids and great place to raise them. Since then renters have moved in and there went the neighborhood. Lawns are not well kept and no more kids outside playing. If my children were little they would have to stay close to home so I would know where they were. "

"Always see dog owners walking their dog. It’s a great place. With empty houses and more people renting homes the neighborhood is definitely going down hill. "

"It’s a college town, but as long as you’re not too prudey (which I don’t mean in a bad way) it is a great place to live. You probably will have the occasional outside noises but it’s safe and the college kids are overall very friendly and considerate of home owners in the area. "

"It’s a college town but is still a great town. I’ve never had problems with it being too loud unless you live by Greek row. People are very nice and I always feel safe. The shootings lately have all been from the same house on riverside and they are moving out, that house is up for rent now. "
