5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI don't learn at all here. Students with higher academic levels are NOT accommodated. Everything I am learning has been taught to me in the 3rd grade. I would say every 1 in 99 teachers will actually make a positive impact on students. The only thing counselors do is roam around the hallways and get in your business. All the staff members pretend to be fu and engaging and care for you, but the second you tell them about a struggle they tell you to talk to someone else back and forth. The safety is the worst ever. The fights are terrible and happen at least twice a week. The police officers there only stand in the cafeteria, and they are almost too involved with the students to a point where anything bad that happens, it gets looked past. The only thing the exceed at is family engagement because the second you seem "uninterested" or get anything remotely negative surrounding your name they tell your parents. You can reach out to your counselor as many times as you want but the only thing, they can say is to tell your mommy and daddy. Oh, what's that? You don't have a mommy and daddy? Well sucks for you because your teachers don't care, and nobody ever will at SMS. My last points are that most these things don't apply to the Highschool. The sports teams are not good and the clubs/sports that are actually good, never get noticed! They love to talk about football and basketball but, the drama club placed second and nobody knew because the school did not care. LASTLY, if you have purple hair SUSPENDED! If you have leggings on SUSPENDED! If you get into a fight, "Oh look there's a butterfly!!" Come one Southport. We get beat at everything so how come we can't at least get along with our students? The only thing that your prisoners, I-I mean students get along about is the fact that if it was up to them, they would pick and choose the good teachers and got to Saint Jude with them. Even if I wasn't Christian, I would go to the most Catholic school just to escape Alcatraz I MEAN SOUTHPORT! -#msStudent Review3mo ago - Southport High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI went to Southport High from 2019-2023. At some point they introduced a policy which provides a 50% grade for assignments which are not turned in/missing. In my opinion they did it in order to make themselves look better statistically instead of for the benefit of students. The 50% policy is very detrimental because it is counterintuitive when it comes to college preparation. As a college student now, I think the policy hurt me because I am used to getting away with having several missing assignments while still having a good grade. However, I also noticed that my teachers at Southport had a similar opinion and that it was out of their hands. Besides that policy I heavily disagree with, the teachers are amazing as well as the athletics department.Other Review4mo ago - Southport 6th Grade Academy

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son got a 1 day suspension for dozing off in class. He has never had this problem and instead of the teacher having him get up to revive his body they just suspended him. This is not a reason for suspending a kid from school.Parent Review10y ago - Check out schools near 1414 E Elbert St.

"49 yrs seen its ups and downs but all in all. The lack of apartments in the area has help tremendously over the years. "

"It all depends on the street you live on. Part of E. Thompson Rd, between Madison Ave & US-31, has a couple of apt. complexes & a long-stay motel rampant with crime & drug use. There are addicts panhandling in the intersections and as pedestrians, often seen talking outloud to nobody, fighting, or just passed out in a random lawn. the motel next to Red Lobster and then the one across the street from there, on 31 next to Taco Bell, are the worst. Many of the other areas of North Perry are actually still quite nice with good families that keep up their yards and keep to themselves for the most part."

"They would like half of the other dogs. Half are friendly, half are aggressive. No pet vaccination records are required so that’s not good. "

"It is a family-friendly neighborhood, most homes are well-kept, and the location is convenient for work in shopping. It is a great place to raise a family, in the church across the street has a nice playground where younger children can enjoy swings and slides, and have fun. property values have appreciated substantially since we moved here, And our family has always felt safe in the Rosedale Hills addition."

"We bought our home on Loretta Drive in Sept 2011. We love the very large lots - and the easy access to I-65. We are super close to downtown, to Greenwood, and to Southport. Very convenient location. But you can still find more land than most places. Our neighborhood is very quiet, somewhat older than we would have liked, but we like it very much!"
