- Forest Park Elementary School
2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is the second year one of my daughters attended this school. It has not been a good experience either year. The teachers she has had do not work well with us and one even said she didn't give homework because "she doesn't like to have to grade them". The lice issue was aweful and even with repeated calling and going into the school, the issue was never fully handled to satisfaction. It cost us lots of money to continue to battle with it for the longest time. They restrict bathroom use and it resulted in a major uti for my child. We had to get a doctors note to allow her to use the bathroom when needed. (This is after repeated accidents and the uti) because she was terrified to ask to go. (Wonder why that is). My kindergarteners experience, on the other hand, has been amazing. Her teachers go above and beyond to help her and stay in contact with us in every single area of her education. We love Mrs. Murphy and Mrs O'shaughnessy!!! They both get an amazing review from us! Those ladies are the only real positive experience we've had with this school. Because of this, they will not be attending next year.Parent Review4y ago

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI think the teachers are amazing. i have a special needs student and they are so supportive of her and our family. However i do agree with the other parent about the trouble makers and i feel sometimes that for a middle school it has a huge criminal element to it. I don't know what the solution is, maybe more explusions?Parent Review10y ago

- North Side High School
2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNorth Side is an urban school, yes, but that doesn't make it bad. NS has a dynamic principal who is REALLY involved and present in the halls of the school---the teachers strive for success, and we have a few teachers who have gone over and above their duty to ensure that our son make the grade. The school calls itself "the Redskin Family", and we as parents have felt so welcomed by the parent groups. Here are some facts: North Side has an EXCELLENT arts program. There is a gorgeous auditorium, and they're known for their strong theater program. There's a state of the art piano classroom, visual arts department, a dark room for photography (that's larger than the dark room I used on my college's campus!), and wonderful teachers. The marching band has gone to state competition 33 times, including this year. The jazz bands are phenomenal. The choirs and dance programs are award-winning. Last year, North Side Football won the SAC Championship. This year, North Side Basketball won the SAC Championship---for the third year in a row.Parent Review6y ago

"I think its a very average neighborhood for dog owners, but there is also Klug Park within the confines of the neighborhood and it's perfect for dogs to run and play if theyre safe off-leash. "

"Lots of sidewalks, nearby dog park at Johnny Appleseed park. Friendly and safe neighborhood, people drive slow and are safe. I would walk my dog here daily and not feel afraid for myself or my pets. "

"I've lived in this area for 12 years and raised my kids here. The location is convenient to both downtown, north, and south Fort Wayne. Super close to the zoo, Science Central, numerous parks, SkyZone, Canlan Ice Center, Memorial Coliseum/Johnny Appleseed Park, Hazelwood Post Office, St. Jude, and Parkview Randallia. Walking is great - I love to walk down Forest Park Blvd to Lakeside Park. Beautiful, mature trees and lots of sidewalks. Quiet, low traffic streets are safe for kids and pets. Great neighbors...many have lived here all their lives. Nice mix of families, widows, and older couples. "
