10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf your child needs special education this may not be the school for your child. The special education teachers are wonderful but the process of getting your child enrolled in special education is a nightmare. Don’t even dream of doing it on your own. Make sure you have an official diagnosis for whatever your child’s learning issue or disability is because the only way to get anything done here is if the school is legally required to do it. The woman who is promoted over the school psychologist is the coldest most unempathetic, difficult and unpleasant person I have ever had to work with in any school system. Make sure you have everything documented and don’t back down with these people. If your child has a need for special education and they are in regular classes at all do you not expect those teachers to know what your child’s needs are. Again, The special education teachers are wonderful but the administration and the red tape are terrible. If need be get an attorney to help you but at the very least have a psychiatrist or a letter indicating that your child has specific needs. Even then, it’s a struggle but they don’t want to let go of your child because then they lose funding dollars. Surprisingly, the art program was one of the most difficult programs to work with with and teachers had little patience with kids with disabilities. I felt like they experienced my child as nothing but a nuisance.Parent Review1y ago - Hickory Point Elementary School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI've been in this school district for a very long time. I'm a soon-to-be 6th grader, and I'm really excited. A few things some parents and new students should know: -I would actually rate this 4 and a half stars, and here's why: -There is a few cliquey groups of kids (jocks, "popular girls"), and they're quite rude to the normal people (me). Although the school does maintain a no bullying program, unfortunately a lot of kids just don't listen. -And lastly, the school hires bad substitutes. I've seen a few good ones, but mostly the rest is pretty strict and unpleasant. Overall, I would reccomend this school.Other Review10y ago - Wood Oaks Jr High School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school was great. I'm in High School now at Glenbrook North and Wood Oaks definitely prepared me for it. Wood Oaks is "fun", educational, and nobody falls asleep during class. I got good grades and this school totally helps. In 6th grade we learned about World Civilizaitions, religions, and the history of America, catostrophic events, and weather, math prep or pre-algebra and more. In 7th grade we learned more focused American History, biology, pre-algebra or Algebra 1, and stuff. And in 8th grade we learned about current Global Studies, chemistry and a bit a physics, Algebra 1 or Geometry, and more.Other Review10y ago - Check out schools near 320 Sanders Rd.

What Locals Say about Northbrook

"It’s just a quiet sunset residential town. People move here because of the school districts. That’s the main incentive that draws people in, since that’s where most of our property taxes go. It’s mostly family oriented. "

"Walkable to Metra train to city — then about a 40-minute train ride. Also close drive to highway with approx 40-60-minute drive to city. "

"It’s a sundown town. The schools are good. However, there’s not much diversity. If you have a car, you have everything you need and you’re close to 94 and 294, which makes it ideal to commute from the northern suburbs. It’s quiet for the most part and there’s not much going on. It’s mostly a residential town. You only live here if you have kids."
