6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is a 6th grader at Edgewood, and he is having a great experience there. The teachers are supportive and hard-working, and there are challenging (accelerated) courses offered for some of the students. The art and music programs are outstanding. From what I have observed, the teachers and administrators have found a way to channel adolescent energy into something positive and productive for all, and this is not easy to do. We are fortunate to have such a well-run middle school in Highland Park! Thank you!Parent Review3mo ago - Sherwood Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSome teachers are good, but the overall approach allows kids to fall behind. Lack of effective support for learning differences. Lack of transparency: The school pretends everything is all right even when the kid needs extra help. They do not have the kid’s interest as priority. The school was not a partner of ours in providing our kid’s best education and support. The principal is inadequate.Parent Review2y ago - Deerfield High School

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has very special needs, and is developmentally 3-4 months of age. DHS, in all its wisdom, feels that it is appropriate to move my daughter from a special needs school that she has attended for 11 years (with an entire building of superior teachers and staff, as well as in-house therapists) to the DHS program that lacks in-house therapists and where her cohorts are absolutely not a match for her. The DHS school policy for observation by a parent is up to a maximum of 40 minutes, 3 times per year. To me, this is an inappropriately limited amount of time. Worst of all, the superintendents (Martindale and Yonke), and the principal, K. Anderson, refuse to return voice messages. I would like the administration, including the school board, to meet my daughter and listen to my concerns, but presently, the 2 superintendents and the principal will not communicate. If DHS would like me to be comfortable with the idea of my daughter attending the high school, this is NOT NOT NOT the way to make that happen.Parent Review5y ago - Highland Park High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA very average to slightly above average school comprised of mostly very privileged students. Athletics department is very weak, much more support for boys’ teams. Help for adhd students is basically non-existent. My child had a few great teachers that we really appreciated, art and drama departments are strong, the rest is average.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 1411 Cavell Ave.

"Beautiful neighborhood with gorgeous and well maintained homes. The Ravinia district in particular is super family friendly - it’s where the weekly farmers market and summer food trucks with music come. And of course the Ravinia music venue itself is amazing. "

"I’ve lived here for 1 year. The area is very affluent and can feel unwelcoming at times to those of us who aren’t as well off as the rest. The public areas and parks are very well taken care of and top notch. I wish there were more options for the younger crowd. There aren’t any bars other than one brewery and a local pub. I wouldn’t recommend the area for a young couple but if you want a calm place to live, this is a good area. "
