1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe Public school of MacArthur offers Dual Enrollment, my son is a freshman here, and he absolutely loves it. He has AP and honor classes and takes introduction to law as an elective. There is amazing teachers and staff and full security staff and law enforcement, which I know my son is safe when he is inside the school. There’s after many school programs to choose from and continue throughout the school year. I get a daily report to keep taps on my child report. I also get direct email contact with all the teachers and staff. Every student gets a tablet and it’s aimed for current tech era. There are many other programs offered only at this school since they are supported by Millikan University. My son comes home with a wealthy knowledge and always sharing things that he’s learning and excited to go back every morning. Definitely recommend this to any one looking for a great school with many career options.Parent Review1y ago - South Shores Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a parent I really like this school! The teachers show a genuine concern for the children's well being and education. We have a new Principal and he's shaken things up a bit in regards to parental involvement and a family atmosphere. Individual Education Programs are a blessing it means the teachers want to assure each child is learning at their needed level, much harder to teach this way. IEP's allow the teachers to break the students out of the cookie cutter stick to the book curriculum (for Gifted and educationally challenged students alike). My son loves this school!Parent Review10y ago - Stephen Decatur Middle School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhile having a student in this school there were fights consistently. Children taunting and bullying others face to face in front of staff, and it went unchecked. The students seemed to be running the school and there was certainly little to no discipline. Thankful we found a different educational environment to place our daughter. She said she did not feel safe or secure in SDMS.Parent Review2mo ago - Check out schools near 10 Lake Poin.

What Locals Say about Decatur

"I dislike living in Decatur. The only good thing about it so far is that it is cheap to live here, but I do not feel safe when I'm out of the house. I constantly have to worry if my car will be stolen or vandalized while I'm not paying attention. I constantly hear gunshots at night, emergency vehicle sirens, noisy train horns, people getting into loud arguments and fistfights, it seems like it never stops. The air in Decatur reeks like cheap dog food if you're lucky, and like a wastewater treatment plant if you're not."
