What Locals Say about Ames

  • Trulia User
"Easy access to the interstate or highways from any part of town. I usually commute to West Des Moines and it's usually an easy 40-minute drive. Still plenty close to the Des Moines area without being in it. "

"Ames has a great downtown with Farmers Market and events sorting thru fall. Great outdoors trails and parks used year round by ISU students and residents."

"Many, many dog owners and lovers in the neighborhood. Dog walking is a common, daily activity for most of these people. Even non dog owners seem to like to see the dogs out and about. Owners are conscientious about picking up after their pets."

"Parks are leash-only, but observant and respectful owners can have their dogs off-leash. Lots of good sidewalks and open prairie for dogs to sniff around. "

"This neighborhood has homes that are a 12 minute walk from Iowa State University campus, and that have a 3-mile cross country course directly behind them. It is a safe neighborhood on a bus route. Campus town shops and restaurants are a 5 minute walk. While students live in campus town as well, one becomes aware of them only on a few weekend evenings a year. "
