You will attend your child’s classes for 10 -15 minutes and get an idea of the years curriculum and expectations. The teachers were extremely welcoming, highly entertaining and have open communication with the parents as well as the kids. I was impressed with the campus, the cleanliness, organization and all around vibration. Coming from a private school background I was hesitant and was initially thinking of transferring him but he is so happy making friends and actually said he loves all of his teachers and they are all “cool” which is rarity! Despite having transferred to Koko Head almost two months late from the UK, everyone from the principal, staff, teachers, and local families collectively made our daughter’s transition a smooth one; even as the school year draws to a close, they continue to make our daughter’s experience an incredibly positive one. Despite their funding limitations, we have been impressed with how hard and selflessly this school has worked to not only create a safe atmosphere, but also to help their students learn how to strike a balance between the importance of having a strong academic focus and a sound character. Our daughter’s 5th grade teacher, Mrs. C.S., is brilliant in that regard; we honestly could not have asked for a better teacher or advocate for our daughter. "I have lived in Hawaii Kai as a teenager, moved to the mainland and then came back to raise my family. Although it has gotten much busier over the years, Hawaii Kai is our favorite - you may find practically everything you need in a 3 mile radius - farmer's markets, shopping, restaurants, decent schools, beautiful dry weather with great tradewinds, gorgeous beaches, hiking, recreational & skate parks, and also have familiar faces and friends nearby. It is an easy & livable community and worth the relatively short commute to town."
