You must be the child of an "it" parent or PTA member, or of course the administrations child to be acknowledged for anything. I proved it. 8 years at the school and one year serving on the PTA. One child received an award the year I was on PTA only. The others never even a single good job from anyone. All others are quite literally seen and treated as beneath them. The communication is horrible. And I absolutely mean horrible. We pray every night to survive this school. A piece of advice for parents sending their children to OPES, if you push back or question any decision the administration or personnel make regarding your child, you need to prepare yourselves and your child for unfair, unkind, and downright disgraceful treatment.Other Review6y ago - Glynn Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm quite sad. My child wants to learn so much more but it's like pulling teeth to get them to actually challenge him! He spends day after day bored in his classes with little to no challenge. A few teachers should retire and give it up - assignments are given and never graded (probably lost) and PE is a joke, they just send the kids outside to walk around the track. 8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur family loves Glynn Academy. Rich in history, this is a downtown school (gated) and has the feel of a college campus. Teachers will push and encourage your child beyond their comfort zone. They are quick to offer college referrals and really prepare your child to hit college running. They really go beyond what is expected from teachers and invest in your children. Sports and team spirit play a huge role at GA. Terrors Football has produced some college & NFL level players. In addition, Terrors baseball is home to Adam Wainwright (pitcher for St. Louis Cardinals). Tennis, Golf, Volleyball, Softball, Sailing, Theater etc. They have something for everyone. GA is home to the Pride of the Golden Isles Band, who have won many Champion titles in marching band competitions. As a parent, there may be some kinks - well nothing is perfect and this is a big learning age - but two of my daughters have attended here as will my youngest when the time comes. "Dog owners should wake a dog with a light at night because there are no street lights. There are plenty of dog parks in mostly every neighborhood on st Simon’s island and if your dogs gets lost someone will find him or her. "

"We have HOA meetings and summer time street parties. We all Visit when walking ourselves or our dogs. Our Street has lights at night and wide roads. Bike riding by everyone is a great way to visit our neighbors."
