We are a transfer family, with two students at James Elementary. There is so much failure at this school, it's hard to pinpoint what is bringing the school down. The lack of proper communication is a big complaint as it hinders parent involvement, my daughter won student of the month and I didn't know about the ceremony until her teacher left me a voicemail the night before, I missed her achievement because of carelessness. My children are in different grades and neither brings home adequate classwork, rarely get homework, and we are two marking periods in without a single graded project. There is zero fundraising and even less organization, with no school to family engagement. There have been no school assemblies or student performances, I have no idea what my children are doing on a daily basis. We have applied for magnet school for the next school year, but I hope they won't be behind. Maybe the administration don't care, maybe the teachers don't care, but as a parent I will do what I can to protect my own.

My daughter was an A/B honor roll student when she started 6th grade. She now is in 7th grade. Her grades and interest in school has been on the decline ever since. She has gotten D's on her report card last year and this year is even worse. The teachers only contact to me has been a progress report at the halfway mark of the grading period. Her attitude has changed drastically to a negative one. She speaks in slang, she's disrespectful. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!! I am in the process of finding her a new school. She is a gifted student and it's being wasted at this school.

The problem with this school starts with the Principal whom lacks basic knowledge of running an effective school. The only the thing that concerns me more than his inability to manage the school is his lack of caring for the well being of the students. His main concerns seem to be buddies with the kids not a figure of authority. He lacks authority, good judgement, and morals, all of which I feel is needed to be a high school principal. I entrusted my child under his authority at Armwood High School last year, it was a disaster. He was in the collegiate academy, which for the most part is ok. My child whom never EVER has had a minutes trouble at school is now the target of bullying and cyber bullying. When your child can be filmed going to the bathroom at school and it being shared via social media is disregarded as "oh it's no big deal you couldn't really see anything" you know something is very wrong with the Principal. The students who did this received only a 1 day suspension. Do your research before sending your child here, and NO the collegiate academy is no different , these 3 bullies were in the collegiate academy. It boils down to a Principal who isn't qualified and doesn't care and it goes downhill from there. Teachers don't respect him, students don't respect him, and I don't respect him. My child moved onto to another school and is doing fantastic.
