5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTerrible I will be pulling my daughter out of Wheat ridge High School for the following reasons. Number one the school and staff completely ignored my custody order at sole decision-making parent and continued to communicate with my daughter's father and not me. number two he told our child twice that she has to be quarantined because people at her school have covered I emailed the school several times to find out if this was true they refuse to answer me. Number three I requested a meeting with the principal and I was completely ignored in my email. they number four they continuously call the father and I to tell us our child is missing school even though she's online doing the work for the right classes they continue to blame her it's not her fault and they won't fix her record. at this point I have no desire to deal with Wheat ridge and I would love love to sue them if my daughter was really supposed to be quarantined and they did not tell me I will be looking into that.Parent Review3y ago - Manning Options School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school supports all students and helps me as a student with special needs succeed. Many of the negative reviews are from when the school had a different principal. I have had bad experiences with some teachers but most are thoughtful and expect all students. Although this school has some dumb rules and high goals. I have found that they do a lot to help students succeed.Student Review6mo ago - Dennison Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageUnfortunately All five of my siblings and I had the "opportunity" to go to D'Evelyn. However as many would assume/expect that we were lucky, it was the complete opposite experience. I would never recommend this school to anyone... it is actually HORRIBLE. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you care about your child's education, then do not go to this school. No grades, no real guidance, no discipline, no structure and no motivation geared towards actual education. It does not hold kids accountable, does not teach responsibility and does not set kids up for success.Parent Review1mo ago - Jefferson County Open Secondary

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school only works for a very small number of learners. The quality of teachers is really hit or miss. The ideology behind this learning environment is student lead learning. Unfortunately if you have anything other than an outstanding teacher the student is left to fail academically while shouldering the blame for not being self-directed. A few students thrive, unfortunately many are poorly prepared academically for life after high school. The administration is unwilling or unable to fully accept responsibility for the safety of their students during school hours. Drug use, alcohol consumption, and sex on campus does occur at this secondary school which shares a campus with K-6. Do not accept the hype that the community environment is so great that these students respect the rules. I was recently informed that 1/2 of the class in one of my students electives chooses to regularly not attend that class. No attendance is recorded and they are simply unaccounted for during this time. This did not seem problematic to the teacher at all. I'm unsure how this compares to other schools. I was surprised this type of behavior existed, since the number of students that are enrolled at JCOS is so low, and the advisers claim to be deeply invested. The administration's response is that the students are choosing to break the rules and it is not the schools philosophy to police them. There are very few extra curricular activities offered through the school. There is almost no focus on physical education. PE classes that do exist have almost entirely male enrollment. A holistic approach to education is not embraced here. The exceptional outcome that occasionally occurs at this school is promoted as the norm. Please be aware that it is not.Parent Review5y ago - Stevens Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageStevens used to be a great school. It was a GT center, and had a great culture. In more recent years, the GT focus has been all but abandoned, and gifted children rarely seem to have enrichment let alone ALP focus. Math is a joke. Some classrooms are so loud a lot of the time and focused on the ASD center kids that it’s detrimental to ALL students. Violence seems to now be almost daily rather than rare. Children are at risk from other children in their classrooms. They are at risk on the playgrounds. They are at risk, from their peers. And no one cares- because the kids that are responsible matter more than the kids they hurt. When do their rights end and the other kids rights begin? Where is the balance? All children should be able to learn and have an opportunity to thrive, and they shouldn’t have to constantly not have those opportunities in order for other kids to have theirs. They shouldn’t have to always be waiting for another meltdown or wondering if they’ll get hurt or friends will. It’s just not fair. It’s not an environment that’s conducive to learning. Sometimes, it’s traumatic. Stevens is a school that now wants to claim too many things, and needs to pick one. Be a GT center, or an ASD center. Diversity in the student body is a beautiful thing, but when the needs of a few outweigh the needs of the rest, habitually- that student body as a whole is no longer served. Stevens office staff is amazing. The support staff are amazing. Social workers, nurses, paras, health aid- even the janitorial staff and maintenance- all great. There are some awesome teachers that haven’t fled yet. A lot of the staff here genuinely care about the students. They know them by name, they know who might need more food at home or a hug, they know the kid’s interests, their families, etc. Stevens is incredibly lucky to have most of the staff they have. Administrators need to open their eyes, and figure out a better way forward. They need to leave their offices and see what’s happening in classrooms- and imagine for a moment being a young child trying to learn to read with someone having a full blown meltdown next to you or throwing furniture across the room. All the time. They need to see what their teachers and other staff see, and ask how to support them better (psssttt I bet it’s not with baked potato or taco bars). Do better.Other Review3mo ago - Check out schools near 6415 W 29th Ave.

"Nearby parks, friendly neighbors, lots of dog owners, and mostly good weather. There are no gated neighborhoods nearby, so we can freely walk the dog through a variety of interesting neighborhoods and visit several pocket parks. There are also a couple vet hospitals and several veterinary doctors practicing near us. There are also some really cool pet shops with dog food, treats, and toys for purchase."
