3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averagemy daughter is older than my son so she started kindergarten first and she was being bullied and of course i went up to their principal and instead of asking her who was bullying her she was grilling her like she was the bully and of course i got her out of there. my son went for 1st grade there when a new principal was in place. Didnt think their special education was corrupted too and the teachers there! My son was about to start first day of school and was crying and upset so they got sped teacher to come down. I reminded both the teacher and the sped teacher that my son is a Runner and that he needs to be watched. Well 12pm comes when i get a call telling me that my son ran off campus and someone went to go look for him. I went out with my dad with our own vehicles to look for him and found him about to cross the street on UNION and Fountain. I went back and told them what kind of school is this and all my frustration to this man. To just get oh they will do better i promise you! Never Went Back!!! Called district 11 they told me the same that they would do better! This is the worst for children with disability or without!Parent Review8y ago - North Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI feel like North Middle School is the poster child of what not to do in a school. First, the school is old. It's been around for over 70 years at this point. Along with age comes lack of certain things, like decent ventilation. The school was shut down once in the 22-23 school year because of an "unexplained" smell. I'm still not sure we have gotten the truth about it. At least once a week, my child texts me, or tells me after school, that the school has a certain smell again and is starting to feel sick from it. Nothing is ever done. Pick up and drop off is just stupid at this school. There is no real parking area for parents to wait, so the road around the school is just littered with cars as parents park in the middle of the road to wait or in a cross walk. Students dare in between cars to get to their parents, but half the time you are lucky to see them. It's only a matter of time before a student is struck by a car at this school. Complaining to the school principal did nothing. Oh sure, she sent out one email about it and added a small snippet to the weekly emails, but no teachers, principal, security, or whatever is out there dealing with the matter (even after the principal promised it would be looked into.) I walk my child to and from the car because it's just that bad. Teachers don't really "teach" from what I have been told by my child. Her ELA teacher just hands her a packet of worksheets and tells her to figure it out. I could do that at home... couldn't I?Apparently kids can skip class here easily too and parents aren't told about it until 1-2 hours after school is out for the day. How can my child go to 6 classes in a row, but by the 7th class they just don't realize they are not in class? Do they not monitor the halls or bathrooms to make sure students are where they are meant to be? What happens if a child just decides to say "I don't want to be here" and walks out a door? Parents wouldn't know until after school when they pick the kid up! I'm so glad my student will not be attending this school next year. Between what I have listed and a bunch of other things (bullying, for example) I feel like my kid is going to need a lot of therapy over the summer because this school has done a number of them.Parent Review11mo ago - Palmer High School

What Locals Say about Southwest Colorado Springs

"Schools are good. CMSD12 is a great district. Lots of sports options and things for kids to do. Loads of families choose to live here "

"Nice area to walk with my dog. Pretty homes with a variety of architecture with winding, tree covered little streets and lots of dear throughout the year. There is access to Fountain Creek and a couple of different parks in walking distance as well as Ivy Wild if you want to walk to lunch or home from happy hour ;) There are lots of good hills for getting a good work out but they can be an issue on bicycles, but not a problem if u plan your route. Overall I have to say that this area is pretty close to perfect!"

"Live in an apartment off 115, it’s nice being able to walk to the grocery store. What makes it unique is that great hiking is a 10 minute drive away, so it’s very easy to get away from the hustle and bustle for a while. Overall nice area and would definitely recommend to anyone who is moving to Colorado Springs."

"We don’t have much community events in our neighborhood in my opinion but we still speak to neighbors "
- Alyssab.98.ab

"People are very prone to call the animal police over rediculous reasons. If you know a dog doesn’t like you or will bite you don’t purposely go and pester him/her in it’s “home” or “territory”. Simple as that. The people here are rediculous and have no common sense and love to annoy and pester dogs."

"Some houses have very small back yards, or no yard at all. Other than that, can’t think of anything. I’m not a dog owner."

"There are no events in this area that make the community special. It is the view of the mountains and all the outdoor activities that make it special. not the people. Also I'm not a very social person so that plays a part too."

"It has the best schools in all of Colorado Springs and is a very highly sought after area. The rent is very high and hard to find homes in this area due to the high demand to be in the school district. It is a very pleasant area and had a lot of things to offer in a high end neighborhood. The Broadmoor is one the best resorts in Colorado and the Cheyanne Mountain Zoo is in the top ten in the nation."
