4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBishop is a great school and I'm happy to send my 2nd grade son here. The principal and assistant principal are very positive and set an upbeat tone for the campus. I *think* they've only been in leadership since 2019. (My son started Kinder in 2020). Bishop has dedicated teachers and staff who support a culture of leadership and personal agency. There are many male teachers here; positive male role models make a big difference in children's success and outcomes as adults. Teachers run many of the after-school activities (e.g., ukulele, coding, cooking and fractions, leadership). The care and love they put into supporting the students' school experience is really inspirational. Low scores are correlated with the socioeconomics of the community since it's a neighborhood school. Bishop is a Title 1 school: it has a high percentage of families that have low socioeconomic status (SES). In Sunnyvale School District, Bishop has the highest percentage of low SES students (60.2%) and highest percentage of English Language Learners (50.9%). A constant goal is more family engagement, especially amongst Spanish-speaking families. It's difficult to involve families whose schedules don't allow for extra participation or funds to be spent at school. The cultures of many families in our school don't have the same kind of norms of school involvement as is common in a lot of American schools. Many families in our neighborhood choose private schools or the two choice schools in our district. This has a significant impact on what families are left at Bishop. While it has the highest needs, Bishop also has the lowest community (family) resources. Our PTO budget is a fraction of some of the schools in South Sunnyvale. It's the responsibility for those of us that have the privilege of being more involved in our children's education to step up by supporting our public schools as well as we can. You can create a display to show off your heritage at the multi-cultural festival; help clean up popcorn after a school movie night; mark laps on the back of kids' shirts during the Walkathon. Our contributions to the school help form the school's culture. Our son (and daughter in two years) gets to spend his days with kids that aren't just like him. Attending Bishop is preparing him for "real life" with diverse people. I hope that others will also consider sending their kids to Bishop.Parent Review1y ago - Columbia Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI had no choice but sending both of my kids here. The bell schedule is horrible!! Some kids can't even remember the time to go to upcoming class:8:34-9:24Period 19:27-10:22Period 210:22-10:35Brunch13 min10:38-11:28Period 311:31-12:21Period 412:21-12:51Lunch30 min12:54-1:33Advisory/FLEX1:36-2:26Period 52:29-3:19Period 6Why such a an odd bell schedule?? can they just do the times which is easier for parents/students to remember??? And late start is a joke!! I want my kid to have a consistent schedule NO LATE START PLEASE!! There is no point of having start start days!! That doesn't help any parents who's working consistently with the same schedule everyday. Late start days would ruin their schedule especially the parents who work in the medical field. If i have any other choices, i would send my kid there NOT here at Columbia!! I would NOT recommend this school for new comers! Spend extra money and invest in other schools! I've never engaged with teachers nor staff at this school !!Parent Review7mo ago - Fremont High School

"The neighbors complain about dogs that bark. Even during the day few times out of the day you hear em. They call the police and act like they can't work due to dog barking once or twice a day. Ridiculous."

"Very convenient for picnics, birthdays or volleyball in the park. Very short walk to old downtown for a wide selection of restaurants. A couple or three blocks walk to the train is perfect and the elementary school is only a couple blocks away. "
