What Locals Say about South Beach

"Navigation Center brought in lots of drug sales. They set up shop across the street. ABC News just did a puff piece on it and said it’s gotten better. Not so. "

"It mostly warm and Sunny, clean, modern, and the most conveniently located out of all SF neighborhoods (close the to FD, the Bay Bridge, and highways 101 and 280, even Costco is a 5 min drive; and if you’re a Giant’s fan, it’s paradise : )"

"Lots of homeless. Crime is a constant theme. Dodging needles and feces isn’t common but it happens. We get notifications from Citizen that crime is a pretty constant theme. I wouldn’t recommend walking around here past dark. "

"The thing that makes this neighborhood unique is Delancey Street. It’s a non profit that helps out the community. It also has a moving company , restaurant and a cafe as well a catering company that is reasonably priced. However many of the families have moved away in the past 3 years and it seems the amount of homeless people has increased"

"Scary at night. Homeless tents and sketchy people make us feel very uncomfortable. It’s too bad the there is zero police presence here. "

"It's up and coming and getting more vertical! It's next to many tech businesses, which are visible out our living room window. The few restaurants around are nice with good food, California fusion, and excellent service! I would love to see more small restaurants and little businesses."

"I just moved to the SOMA area about two months ago, and so far it has been great. If you work anywhere downtown, you can easily walk to work, or you can easily hop on the light rail MUNI train. There are some great restaurants in the area and you aren't far from the quaint Dogpatch and Potrero neighborhoods, which also have excellent amenities. The SOMA area near the baseball field specifically also has great workout options - you can hit the Embarcadero for a run or long walk, or try out Barry's Bootcamp, Orange Theory or Barre class. There is at least one large dog park for pet owners, too. Major drawbacks include more homeless people in the area and fewer clothing or gift stores. It's also noisy and messy during baseball season (as far as I can tell). Overall, SOMA near the ballpark is a great place to be if you'd like to taste city living and live in more modern apartments. "I enjoyed being there for the time being, but the area can be a little cleaner. To live there I would have to say it is more for singles or couples. There is a great deal of traffic and this is why I would not recommend it to families. Other then that it seems as if their is plenty to do and never a dual moment of San Francisco.. San Francisco rocks other than that!"

"Probably the best and most coveted areas in the South of Market neighborhoods, the intersection of Brannan and Delancey Streets represent the best of what South Beach has to offer. Tree-lined, neighborhoody, sunny, great for kids/families, clean and near the waterfront. You have the best of all worlds here!"
