What Locals Say about Haight

"lots of transients, traffic, noise and poop. Just like any part of the city, be aware of your surrounsings and don't leave anything in your car. "

"Many options to choose from and very easy to commute to any part of San Francisco: 33, 43, N, 7, 6 are all walking distance."

"I drove to outer Richmond so far the drive is easy while shelter in place is in effect. Will definitely change once they lift SIP rule. "

"Lots of dogs are being walked. The parks makes a great space for furry family’s or human ones. Most people pick up after their dogs but it’s human waste that becomes a problem. "

"It has a family feel, perhaps due to the number of schools in the area (albeit private). There are a number of families on my street and it has a real neighbourhood feel. Very close to Golden Gate and the Panhandle and near Duboce park too. "

"It is a good neighborhood. You can walk everywhere, schools are good and golden gate park is amazing. "

"One of commute options to downtown is by bike. Bike commute takes 20 -25 minutes along a popular route frequented by many fellow cyclists - so there's safety in numbers in addition to dedicated bike lanes along part of the route. Commute back from downtown has some uphill sections, but still very manageable by SF standards."

"Great family vibe despite all the tourists. Lots of kids playing in front of their houses. Just wish everyone went to the same schools "

"Being on Golden Gate Park is a really really special bonus! The neighborhood is very laid back and still retains its old school vibe despite the gentrification of the great majority of the city now."

"It's close to Golden Gate Park and Kezar Stadium. Hiking the nearby hills and Twin Peaks is challenging and offers incredible views of San Francisco. The library is quiet, has computers, and sometimes hosts interesting programs and movies."

"The Haight is, without a doubt, one of the most storied neighborhoods in all of San Francisco. As the epicenter of the Summer of Love and subsequent counterculture movement of the '60s and '70s it has a reputation as a free-wheelin', anything-goes type of place. To an extent that rep is accurate. The scent of marijuana smoke is very common, and we have more than our fair share of homeless street kids. That said, we are also a safe and thriving residential neighborhood with great markets, several nearby parks, easy access to public transportation, and beautiful Victorian architecture. There are multiple neighborhood organizations for both residents and merchants, and the people who live here are highly engaged with local politicians and law enforcement."

"Centrally located within the city and with walking access to a large number of restaurants and merchants within the communities that border the Buena Vista Park neighborhood (Upper Haight, Lower Haight, Castro, NOPA, Divisadero corridor, Ashbury Heights, Cole Valley). Buena Vista Park itself is the highlight--one of the oldest and most picturesque parks in the city, it manages to remain accessible with stairways going up and down the steep, wooded hillsides. The name 'Buena Vista' aptly describes the views in all directions (ocean, golden gate, downtown). Take a book, sit on a park bench or enjoy the breathtaking beauty that Buena Vista offers."

"Page St is seriously the best-kept secret in the city. It's adorable, with gorgeous historic Victorians toe feast your eyes upon. It's connected, with the nightlife on Divis a 5-minute walk, Faletti's a 5 minute walk, and the downtown buses or cabs to take you everywhere else in the city a 2 minute walk. Parking is manageable in that I can always find a spot somewhere, and usually within one block of where I live. I looooove the funky people on Haight St - sure, they're a little smelly and kooky, but they are harmless and good entertainment as you walk down the street. I never feel unsafe stumbling home at dawn. You get a lot for your money in this area - spacious and well-kept apartments, backyards, parking, restaurants, three parks - the list goes on. This is a much better area to live than NOPA - everything interesting is much much closer, and there are just more choices. Haight is where it's at!!"
