What Locals Say about Tenderloin

  • Maria Roa
"Walking your dog would be a nightmare in this area. Dirty streets and unstable individuals/ drug use might not want to go for an evening walk in the area"

  • Denise Rizo
"Police fail to do their jobs. Housing should be top priority as people are literally dying on the street. The hush hush of open air drug use and there are dealers on most corners in the tenderloin. Live here if you are a risk taker. "

"Great neighborhood. And very quiet. But during Folsom weekend and up your alley weekend is pretty hectic here. "

"While parts of this neighborhood are not aesthetically appealing, it is close to other neighborhoods with shops and restaurants. Plus the restaurants and bars in this neighborhood are some of the best, suprisingly."

"Parades and civic events galore. Every parade in the city comes through here. Every protest does too. It’s the government center of the city and it’s the most diverse in the city too, but homelessness is a problematic here. "

"There is a huge homeless problem, drugs, crime, and human and dog feces (like walking in a mine field) all over the sidewalks and its STILL expensive. shootings are common"

"This area is gritty but super convenient when it comes to food, shopping, and transportation to anywhere. It is walkable but not desirable at night. Plenty of bars and clubs within blocks from Union Square. The area is unique with history and comes with its own unique vibe. Dirty and grungy to the point of charm but not dangerous to explore."

"I’ve been living here for more than 10 years. Homelessness has become a much bigger problem. Drugs dealings are everywhere. Streets are dirty. I don’t think the city is doing enough to solve it. But I love the restaurants around here...taste and affordable."

"I really wouldn't say unique. More like livable? This is no place for children period. Lifestyle here would be lovely and peaceful if that someone would boost the security in the T.L's , I'm just saying. "
