5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy kids both attend Roosevelt Middle School. It is a great school with teachers who care about the students. The principal is fantastic and has great communication with families. He is very dedicated to his students and attends so many school events, even on weekends. The families are engaged and volunteer their time for the students and the school.Other Review10mo ago - Sherman Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSherman is the Best School to prepare our children at the beginning years of their education!!!I have three children, two of them were promoted from Sherman and now are in middle school. My last one is still in Sherman. It is rewarding to know that your expectations as parent are fulfill in a school that offers to prepare your children academically in two languages. Sherman is like a big family, Administration, Teachers, Parents and Staff work in collaboration to ensure that every student exceed their own goals. All teachers have high expectations for our children and it makes them realize that “Being successful is great!” My favorite teachers are Mr. Vargas, Mrs. Prudencio and Mrs. Menestrina. They have shown time after time their professionalism. They encourage the children to grow as good citizens, teach discipline, and have constant communication with parents. Principal Caballero, as his last name means in Spanish, is a gentleman, open minded, committed with the immersion program, but mainly with the student’s academic and citizenship performance. Now my three children Speak, Write, Understand and Read both languages fluently and they score proficient in the state testing ELA. If you want your children to be academically prepare for the global future Sherman it’s the strong root they need.Parent Review7y ago - San Diego International Studies School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur student is graduating this year and I am very appreciative for all that the school has done. Yes, the counselor was never available, the school is huge, sometimes sitting outside waiting for our student to get out, seeing the many students coming out, I realize that these teachers have a very important and surely challenging job. These young people are being prepared for their future, and many may not even really want to be in school all of the time. There are these social media challenges where some break bathrooms and do other damage to the school building, that is unfortunate and happens at schools everywhere, but I hold the parents responsible for that. Teachers especially after the pandemic have faced many challenges, making up lost time, helping those who suffered through the lockdown, I can't forget that these teachers also have a private life, also had their challenges during the lockdown. I just know our student had a good experience with online school, often leaving her room laughing about a class where they had fun doing online learning, yet the isolation weighed heavy on most of them. We send our children to school and expect so much, take it all for granted, but I thank the teachers from the bottom of my heart and hope that we as a society start to recognize how important that profession is. They are all deserving of our respect and gratitude. Thank you San Diego High IS for all you did for our student to now move on to college. She hated the AVID classes but I loved what she learned there, thank you!Parent Review2y ago - San Diego Business

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have to give this school a low rating even though my son attends. This may be his first and last year here. There is hardly any parent, principal involvement, afterschool activities (compared to the other SDHS-or even some of the other schools in the district that we visited), and it s hard to even reach anyone during the school hours. There are a few teachers who are in it to win it; but I sat in on one of my son s classes and the poor business teacher was being walked all over. How can they teach leadership skills when they can't control their class? It was hard for me to watch! This is one of the low performing schools and it shows in the leadership down to the test scores.Parent Review14y ago - San Diego Science and Technology School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is a senior. He did the last 18 months virtually, and went back to in person class 2 weeks ago. The virtual classes were a joke, the fact that the school district doesn’t mail grades home “because of COVID-19 “ even more so. This week, my son has been home sick. I have called DAILY to report him absent, and to request assistance getting a COVID test. Every afternoon at 5:30, I receive 3 calls, one from each of the “schools” at the San Diego High campus, to report the unexcused absence. NO ONE has returned my phone calls, and the school principal has not returned my email. This has pretty much been my experience all 4 years. If you can afford private school, do not send your child to a San Diego Unified high school.Parent Review2y ago - Check out schools near 800 The Mark Ln #2006.

"My dog encountered amphetamines on the street in east village. It’s not safe nor clean here. "

"Coming from the suburbs, it has been such a great experience. Everything is just so close. Groceries, parks, the airport, specialty stores( hardware, floral, etc), amazing restaurants and bars literally within 1-10minutes of a walk. VERY dog friendly… even in grocery stores as long as the pup is well behaved. Unfortunately, not terribly kid friendly, although there are a families with small children I’ve encountered here and there. Love it and will miss it when we leave to start a family"

"God public transportation and the commute to downtown is simple. However it’s not called the barrio for no reason"
- Heather R.

"There are a lot of homeless in the area and party seekers make sidewalks dangerous. Great food options and proximity to Gaslamp."

"Nice safe neighborhood with nice apartment buildings. There are some restaurants, petco park is close by, along with other parks"

"It’s prime downtown living, nice new buildings but there’s the downsides too. Lots of homeless people and it’s really loud. "

"Great looking buildings and modern apartments units with great amenities. It’s also a quiet neighbourhood. "

"I would not live here if I had kids. There is very little outdoor space and doesn’t feel safe at night. Homelessness and drug use are rampant. "
- Amy T.
- Resident

"It is an easy 15-20 min commute going north on the 5 in the morning, but the commute back in the early evening can be significantly longer. Getting around East village to do errands makes up for the commute, however. We have pretty much everything we need within walking distance."
- Priscilla P.
- Resident

"This is East of the downtown area, so a lot of high rise living. Although some families live in the buildings there are still homeless communities around the area; most who mind their own and seem harmless. There are plenty of coffee shops, places to eat and public transport (trolly) around. I’ve taken the trolly to the Mexico border and also over to Santa Fe (downtown) station to walk around. EV is also pretty central and you can get to other neighborhoods within 10-12 mins. "

"Homeless people and human feces on the sidewalk far too often and usually very loud throughout the day with homeless people yelling prophanities"

"Dogs everywhere but no dog park. Quartyard is okay but they really need a fenced in dog park. Some streets are lined with homeless but other areas are okay to walk your dog."
- Nicholas M.

"Lots of homeless in the southern part of east village. Try near the community college. It’s much nicer"
- Marcus D. S.

"Great if you like the night life and being close to gaslamp but the cons outweigh the pro’s as rent is high along with crime and the homeless."
- Merlenette J.

"I'm sure dog owners would love it. there are a bunch of other dog owners. In my opinion there are too many dogs down here "
- Ryan

"This neighborhood is sketchy and scary. Don’t walk alone at night (or at day, truth be told). Crime everywhere; homeless everywhere; drug use everywhere!"
- Yvettereidy

"I’m retired.... I don’t commute. But for those who do I’m sure it’s just as easy as any other community."
- Matthew H.

"There are always events at Petco - and not just baseball games. Neighborhood breweries and distilleries host a variety of special nights and functions on a weekly basis."
- SChasen
- Resident

"Not really a good place for dogs. There is not an abundance of parks in the area. There a couple places only. There is also some patches of artificial grass that smells badly everywhere "
- Friendly N.
- Prev. Resident

"I lived in this neighborhood for 2 years. it's affordable but certainly not the safest. also due to gentrification, the prices are increasing in rent but the neighborhood isn't getting safer. if you don't mind the hood and an occasional shouting here and there, many transients then move here "

"East Village has a lot of potential. I moved because of the homeless issue, high rent, and filthy dog mess everywhere including the indoor hallways of EV apartments. It’s pretty bad and overpriced for rent rates for what you get and have to put up with."

"The best part about living in EV is access to Downtown, airport and lots of San Diego attractions! It’s all being revamped..."
