5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have nothing but wonderful things to say about this school. My kids are in the Spanish program and their teachers are so supportive and encouraging! We speak no Spanish at home and I’m completely wowed everyday by how much they are learning. The school is not huge which I really like. They’ve built strong ties with businesses in the surrounding area so there’s a great community vibes.Parent Review8mo ago - Hoover High School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a substitute teacher, and recently had a single day assignment at this school. Let me start off by saying that I am a fully credentialed teacher, and have subbed at the vast majority of middle schools within San Diego Unified. My experience at this school was nothing short of shocking. Every school no matter where you go has the classroom "handfuls," but at this school these students have zero respect for adults and lie to teachers like it's a knee jerk reaction. Very sad state of affairs. Apparently there are no consequences at this school, and you can tell that from the attitude of the trouble makers. It's probably a school that subscribes to the notion of "restorative justice." It's sad that the school lets the classroom trouble makers ruin the educational experiences of the majority of students who genuinely appreciate the value of education. The funny thing is that I had subbed at Mann Middle School down the street the day before, and it was a night and day difference. Like I tell people all the time, the atmosphere of the school dictates everything. From the administrators, to the resource assistants, and teachers. If everyone isn't on the same page, then the students will suffer!Teacher Review7y ago - Check out schools near 5074 Mansfield St.

"I have lived her over 20 years and I love the neighborhood. We know and like our neighbors. There are huge music events on Adams Avenue at least twice a year that excellent if you like music. The are has many excellent restaurants, bars, and entertainment. We have an amazing home made ice cream parlor (Mariposa). A good grocery store is close by. Excellent public transportation. The best walking neighborhood I have ever seen. We are close to Balboa Park, downtown, airport, beach, hiking, etc. The local public schools are average but there are nearby private schools that are quite good. The kids around here seem happy. There is a good library nearby."
