"It’s best to look for homes that are in city limits because there are islands in the city that don’t count as in city limits so they don’t have side walks or parks. "

"This area has lots of dog owners, and I see lots of people walking here. Everyone is very friendly, and the people who walk their dogs are really responsible for what their dogs leave behind by carrying little plastic bags!"

"Merced i actually a pretty alright city to live in. There isn't a lot of social sites or things to do but the city is definitely growing and expanding into a nice place. The crime and violence has significantly decreased through out the passing years and the school all seem to do a great job with our education. It's definitely a much cleaner and nicer city than nearby areas like Fresno or Modesto. "

"Down the street . 10 min drive max. I don’t live a far drive from down town and all main stores . Merced is mostly quiet, a nice community to live in. It lacks things to do for entertainment in my opinion, and could use more major stores ."

"If you are a Meth user, this is your neighborhood. There is a lab or two or seven within walking distance. Dogs run loose all the time. I've been attacked by two pit bulls since living here. There are tweakers running around at all hours of the night. There was a murder my front lawn a couple of years ago. The house across the street was harboring a prison escapee. We saw the SWAT team in action for that. Efforts to clean up the neighborhood aren't working. The police won't even come when called anymore. It is just being overrun by drug dealers, drug users and gangs. I'll being moving soon! Too bad I can't rate it 0 stars and recommend it to No One. "

"This area between bear creek and R street is sometime called Spaghetti Hill after the Italian families that first lived in the neighborhood in the late 40's and early 50's. This neighborhood is safe, quiet and is walking distance to the charter elementary school at R and W.22nd. The majority of the houses are owner occupied leaving just a few rentals. However, since the economic collapse, there are more homes on the market in this neighborhood and they are selling way under value. I do not know what is the primary cause of this undervalued neighborhood but it is certainly one of the better, more established ones in the city. Neighbors certainly watch out for each other there and there are many young working families and retired military/law enforcement living throughout the "hill". The walk to downtown is an easy 20 minutes and is pleasant in the late spring until mid fall. There is a grocery/auto/clothing retail center within a five minute walk. The neighborhood also butts along the bear creek bike path which allows you to get to the new University (25 min on bike), College center (10 min on bike) or mid-town movie theater (5min on bike) with out having to take the car out. The neighborhood is also located within a 5 minute drive of highway 99 which is the primary road of connecting Merced to LA (5 hrs), SF (2 hrs) and Sac(2 hrs). Merced also has great views of both the Sierras and the Coast Range giving you a true sense of valley living."
