"Highland park is a mix of retro and modern. Lots of cute fun bars and restaurants. Some tailored to OG locals and some tailored to new hipsters. Overall a great feel. Lots of good food. Mostly quiet even with the bars. "

"It has less congestion than the west side during the day especially rush hour. Therefore I tend to stay in this neighborhood and continue to make it feel more like home. "

"The anual parades, Christmas and car shows, the farmers markets. Annual music events. Need to have a 4th of July fireworks show"

  • Crystal F.
"There are sidewalks. However, many dog owners leave their dogs in their front fenced yards which leaves them overly aggressive & can be quite uncomfortable when walking your dogs, especially if you have small dogs and a huge aggressive pit bull tries to jump through their fence. I see why the neighborhood has received the nickname “Highland Bark.” While this treatment of dogs is inhumane, it also lends to an uncomfortable stroll with your furry friends. In addition, apparently “illegal” doesn’t seem to apply to fireworks in this neighborhood. They’re pretty much a year round event here and several months leading into July you’ll hear nightly fireworks which traumatize most dogs. Just being real. This isn’t an ideal dog neighborhood unless you don’t care about your dog. "

"Several young families in the neighborhood, ranging in socioeconomic backgrounds. Kids are often heard and seen playing in their yards. Sometimes there is sidewalk chalk art."

"Easy enough. Small, old streets and lots of pedestrians so it’s important to drive slow. It’s mostly residential and very hilly so everything takes a bit of time. "

  • Erica R.
"People don’t pick up after their dogs and it’s upsetting as it’s such a great neighborhood. Some people have their dogs sleep outside which you can hear barking. "

"The local artists’ events are what really make it special...from No WiFi at the Hi Hat or mariachi music at the first Friday art fair. It’s especially fun when the Bob Baker puppeteers bring their marionettes across the street to the park for the kids to enjoy."
