6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school's reputation has quickly deteriorated since 2013. Test scores have fallen, enrollment is at its lowest in 20 years, and morale is non-existent.The current administration is the worst. No direction, no support to parents, and students. No community involvement to rectify and assist families.Parent Review1y ago - John Adams Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am proud alumni. Thanks to the great teachers/staff I was able to continue school.. Graduated from Venice hs/ UCLA and now currently attending (Harvard) law school. :) special thanks to Mr.Davis, Mr. Rocha, Mr. Torres, Mr. Green, Mr. Avalos and all the teachers that help me out a lot. 3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son attended Manual for 2 years, and that was enough. The school is not terrible, but there is an attitude among the teachers that since this is a ghetto school they should be able to do whatever they want. There is no leadership from the administration and teachers run their classes however they see fit. Mr. Channel, who is mentioned elsewhere here, has a rule that if a student is absent even one day, with or without an excuse, they fail the course. My son was sick one day (with a doctors note!) and failed the class, even though he had all A's. Channel also designates certain pretty girls to be his "helper teachers", and these students get special privileges. Other teachers do much the same, favoring some students, enforcing bizarre rules, etc. We went as far as the school board to protest this, but the attitude seems to be "well , those teachers work in a tough school so we let them alone". At least we didn't have to worry about "teaching to the test". Nobody in this school seems worried about how their students do, long term or short term. I come from a family of educators and I have never experienced a school like this.Parent Review10y ago - Check out schools near 2620 Menlo Ave.

"This lovely neighborhood situated in the newly renamed "University Park" is been rapidly changing having victorian homes all over completely gutted and done from the ground up, a hip and young crowd has steadily become the primary resident. Great place to call home and make new friends!"

"A great area full of archiecturally and historically significant homes inhabited by ethnically and economically diverse people. Very friendly and extremely convenient to freeways, schools, churches, the University of Southern California, the Staples center, Downtown Los Angeles, theaters, etc. etc. Have lived here for over 30 years. Have MBA degree and am an artist. One of the best kept secret neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Highly recommend. Lots of great, secret gardens in backyards that include 100 year old trees and plantings. Lots of L.A. City Cultural Monuments and National Register landmarks within the St. James Park National Register of Historic Places District. Highly recommend to creative individuals."
