8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son began 9th grade at John Marshall last year, initially, things went well, but then he was bullied, and the school knew but didn't inform us. This year, he's still being bullied by the same family, and the school hasn't acted. The staff is overwhelmed, and my son's education is suffering. He's struggling because he has to worry about self-protection and can't focus in an unhealthy social environment. Recently, a student's mother even had to intervene in the courtyard.Parent Review5mo ago - Micheltorena Street Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI spent quite a lot of time volunteering at this school and had the highest hopes for my children. I have since had to relocate because of the abysmal education they were receiving and the lack of communication from most of the staff. This school has a policy AGAINST homework, combined with unhelpful and chronically absent teachers. I had absolutely no idea what was being taught - in English or Spanish - and neither did my child. I began substituting their learning with after-school tutoring, which is expensive and difficult with our schedules. If you child does require additional support, such as an IEP, forget it. The special education system here is a joke and several families have left because of those failures. Don't go by the social media posts making this school look like the shining star on a hill. You don't want to see what's there when you peel back the rug.Parent Review3mo ago - Check out schools near 1821 Silver Lake Blvd.

"its the perfect mix of city and community. im honestly not sure why you would live anywhere else. also, a 100 character minimum is really annoying. not sure how long you have to type to say not a lot at all that no one will read."

"Farmer’s Market on the weekends. Great taco trucks in the neighborhood. Not sure what other activities are happening around the area anymore. COVID changed the neighborhood considerably. Crime went up, homelessness became a huge issue, burglaries… etc."

"Great public school managed by parents . It is a progressive neighborhood with art and culture at its forefront. Not as diverse as it should be. But seeking diversity as a community. And although it has become more affluent over the last two decades there is still an element of the original character of the neighborhood. "

"People smile and say “hi” to one another. Totally different from anywhere else in Los Angeles. Everyone seems to be looking out for one another. I have a dog and everyone knows his name around my community. The people I meet in my community are some of the most kind, genuine people I am proud to share a neighborhood with. "

"It’s safe-ish but it’s still a city. Be careful of where you let your kids go unsupervised. I’m a 27 y/o woman and I’ve been accosted by creeps on a semi regular basis."
- K
- Resident

"There is a halfway house on the corner of Descanso and Robinson. Some people are not aware of this, because both streets are beautiful. It does not belong in our community. It is unsafe and it is the one thing preventing our neighborhood from being the best it can be. The “residents” walk back and forth on Descanso, and I’ve been followed on 3 separate occasions and did not feel safe."
