3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe Principal is a very hard working, dedicated, and committed individual. She lets everyone that works at the school know that our sole purpose in this school is to improve the education of all of the students. We serve a community with extremely hard working parents. Unfortunately, we also have a small minority of parents and students that make our job a lot harder. They are irresponsible, loud, no manners (including the parents), and they very disruptive in many classrooms. But we still have the majority of teachers that come in everyday, ready, willing, and able to make a difference, and we are, our test scores went up again this year. :)Teacher Review11y ago - Hooper Avenue Primary Center

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have had a positive experience working at this school. The teachers are great and have so much experience specifically in Pre-K through 2nd grade- so teachers know where students begin and where they are headed in the next years. I work with really impressive teachers, former writing coaches, literacy coaches, math coaches, nationally board certified teachers, and all around dedicated and effective educators of young children. This is also one of the few schools in the neighborhood that has paraprofessionals in the classroom for more than 2 hours. Additionally, we have a grandparents volunteer program. We are transitioning into the Next Generation Science Standards and maintain a science lab for science and engineering learning. Weekly, students also see a music teacher and a theater arts teacher. These additional supports provide positive adult role models, provide extra safety, and provide more learning opportunities for our young learners. I also like that the physical environment is well maintained and welcomingI have students say to me frequently, "I love this school" and really that's the most important measure.Teacher Review4y ago - Santee Education Complex

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy twins both graduated from Jefferson high school, they both earned honors and a high GPA. My kids passed their History and Calculus AP exams, and they both received academic scholarships to help them pay for college. My kids enrolled in four year universities CSLA, UCLA. They are both pursuing a bachelors degree. They also were part of extra curriculum activities from SRLA, and avid program. They received Letterman jackets from the school. They had a wonderful experience. I also graduated from Jefferson and am very proud. 2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI taught here and the environment inside and outside of school made me feel as though I didn't know how to do my job. Who's to blame? Give teachers the option to transfer to a school that doesn't stress you out as much as Maya, for the same pay, and you'll see why there's a revolving door / high turnover rate. Especially since teacher income is based on student performance. Teachers at the school will be effective if their students were starting the education race from the same starting line as those schools in better areas. Trust me, I've flourished before and after working at that school. I don't blame the teachers at all since students are lawless there.Teacher Review5y ago - Nava College Preparatory Academy
