9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe've come from other schools (private) before coming to 3rd Street and it's been a great experience. Both my kids enjoy going to school and always come home excited to talk about what they learned. No school is perfect of course and there will be some teachers that may be more motivated than others - but overall the school is strong. The admin team is also great with a very enthusiastic principal. The parent community is amazing and the parent volunteers are strong. Because 3rd street isn't a title 1 school, they do not get much funds from LAUSD so the booster club relentlessly works hard to fundraise for great things like tech lab, teacher aides, PE, drama classes, art classes, campus beautification to name a few. Parent volunteering is vital for a school to be successful and that's the case with 3rd street. There's also a new program called Making Caring Common (Harvard Educational program) which discusses/teaches/facilitates social emotional skills each month to all the students. Again something like this wouldn't be possible without the fundraising and parent volunteers.Parent Review5mo ago - John Burroughs Middle School

"It’s a different neighborhood than it was just a few years ago. I think it works a best for people who leave the area for the day and if they go out they also leave the area for that and just stick around on the weekends. Then is very tolerable. "

"It’s changed a lot but it’s still in the middle of everything with attractions and parks that make it worth it still. "

"Lived here 2007 to 2021. Lots of fun for nightlife, outdoor activities, arts scene. Very central location: 10mins to Echo Park, Silverlake, West Hollywood. 15mins to Burbank or the mountains. 30mins to the beach. Areas are very mixed demographics from one block to the next. Street parked cars often have break-ins. Sidewalks are broken and cars speed through residential streets. Not great for a family."

"It’s bustling and close to everything you could need. We walk to most places - grocery stores, restaurants, the Grove, LACMA. It can be loud at times, and people love to drive too fast down residential streets, but otherwise it’s a nice place to live. "

"Walking distance to Trader Joe’s, post office, Staples, The Grove, etc. Parking can be difficult. If you say hi to someone, they will rarely say hi back. It’s safe to walk around at night. However, I usually can’t walk more than a block without seeing at least a couple homeless people."
