8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has been going to Darby since Kindergarten and is now in 4th grade at the school. Not only has the teaching staff been exemplary, but the school takes great care with students who have learning disabilities. My son is on the autism spectrum and would be considered high functioning, so many may not recognize his autism. But the school and staff surrounded him with support to help him excel in areas beyond simple academics, such as social development, and peer-peer interaction, helping him with social cues and behavior in group settings, things where his autism may have hampered his ability to integrate and excel. I credit the Darby staff with with their incredible effort on my son's behalf, without which I think his social and academic performance would be severely underdeveloped from where they are now. I cannot say enough good things about our experience at this school after 4 years of attendance.Parent Review4mo ago - Patrick Henry Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter is in 6th grade at the STEM magnet, and so far we could not be happier. The Academics are great; her courses are rigorous but there is support for the students to meet the demands, and she is excited about what she is learning in each of her classes. Her teachers have helped her navigate the huge transition from elementary school, all while keeping her engaged and challenged. The rotating schedule, clubs, and I&E are innovative and are one of the ways PHMS stands out. The biggest reason I'd recommend this school, though, is that every day she is coming home happy. Honestly, that is not what I was expecting with middle school, and it has a lot to do with the school community there. The teachers are kind, the kids seem nice and chill for middle schoolers, and the uniform keeps the middle-school clothes drama at bay. Her friends from elementary school all went to other middle schools, so we hear about a bunch of them, and they all seem to be facing a much harder social environment. I don't know what their secret is at PHMS, but I appreciate the outcome of their hard work and would recommend PHMS to anyone.Parent Review3w ago - Valley Academy Of Arts And Sciences

"I am a location scout for films in LA and have been for a long time. Most of my friends are also location scouts. Granada Hills has the highest density of scouts living here. Dollar for dollar pound for pound it is the best place to live in the LA area. Omelveny park, and the parks that are connected to it in the nearby mountains is the nicest place in LA to go hiking. Bee Canyony is a great area to walk around in. It is a prosperous neighborhood, egalitarian and diverse. It is a very very extremely easy place to live (I came from Silverlake before this.) There is no traffic and once can go from a living to produce aisle in 5 different markets in 3 minutes. There are lot of different freeways nearby, but not too nearby. Getting around LA from Granada Hills is very easy. It's the best place to live, no crime to speak of."

"I live on the edge of the neighborhood and the area Iive in lands itself to be inhabited by transient, homeless, drug addicted or otherwise unsavory members of society in that the area is adjacent to the fwy and homeless population either live in the greenbelt alongside the freeways or park their RVS in those areas or under the fwy overpasses of which there are many in the areas around Chatsworth Street and Haskell Ave. Worse are the persons who prey on older homeowners overtaking their homes and properties for their own purposes leaving the properties in an unkempt condition bringing the property values down and leaving local older residents in fear of venturing outside their homes for fear of engaging with one of these neighborhood "pirates", for a lack of better terminology for these aforementioned types."

"I have lived in this neighborhood most of my life oh, it has been very peaceful until recently. people are using our streets as a drag strip or a drift circuit. our packages have been taken off from our front door step. people are leaving their dog dropping on our front lawn and stealing out plants as well. some of the neighbors are still kind and decent they knock on your door saying that we need to evacuate because the hills near our house are on fire.
