2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter is going into 7th grade and her first year at EDMS was great! She had EXCELLENT teachers and the Principal and staff were so welcoming and supportive. It's middle school - which is literally the worst - but, overall my daughter made great friends, learned new things, and excelled! There were a couple of issue with other students, but admin was quick to help and make things better. I appreciated the time they took to listen and respond. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhile I was in doubt the first few years whether the dual immersion would work and my kids would learn Spanish (I am an ESL myself and my standards on acquiring language are very high), my doubts disappeared when my older kid gave a speech at her 5th grade promotion. She wrote it herself, she got up there and spoke in front of all the parents and teachers and she was amazing. Having other parents and educators, who are fully fluent in Spanish, congratulate us on her amazing language skills was a testament to this program's truly working. She frequently presents in Spanish, her comprehension is incredible, and her vocabulary as well. I am impressed! Also, don't be fooled by the overall rating- this is a truly mixed school, many students are just learning English which means that they can't test as high as English speakers. My daughter has been constantly exceeding state testing (CAASPP, CAST, LEXQUAN) - in all areas.I wish our school had more funding, but this is a district/ state/ federal issue. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI love this school, just came there and Im an freshman. Rgeardless people are going to say this is a bad school. IT IS NOT. They are very welcoming and nice. They have JROCT, cooking, Public speaking or Debate team/class and more. MUptiple luages classes like French, Spanish and Mandorian chinnise. Tons of sports Football, basketball, tenniss and volleyball track too! The techers are pretty nice they tey to help out as much as they can just ask them. The food her is AWSOME. For kids who have food issues they let anyone and everyone get as much as they need/want they should know the limits. "Best place to live in DC. It’s a beautiful neighborhood that is urban but not downtown. It’s all about the park and trail, tons of restaurants, things to do, grocery stores, markets, bar. Has its own metro in easy walking distance and a trail that connect you to the east side of the city. "

"NoMa Bid has been creating a huge sense of community in Eckington and NoMa. For one they keep the area so clean and you always see their workers sweeping the sidewalks, changing trashing, maintenance at the dog park. And then there’s the events, most at the A.T. Park and the MBTrail. Movie in the park, farmers market, holiday events like pumpkin patch/contest, and of course the mural walls festival. The trail and park have beautiful murals everywhere and each year local artist renew most of them. (NoMa in Color). Also the dog parks is a big vibe in the area, Eckington Dog Park is the best in the city, but there are 4 in the area. Also, Bouldering Project is a cool bouldering and fitness gym. Theres tons of grocery, restaurants, bars and beer gardens, etc. it’s surround by Union Market, Brookland, Shaw, H Street… all connect my the MBT (bike/walk trail) and NoMa/Gallaudet Metro Station (subway). "

"Dogs that can’t be controlled by the owners. It puts you and your dog at risk because as you can imagine it’s larger dogs causing issues. Also people who may not live in your building walk dogs over in your area and leave feces."

"Our elementary school consistently ranks low in testing and they’ve been having trouble finding a music teacher, but I do feel like they’ve been trying hard and mean well. We’ve made friends with some of the parents in our neighborhood and there’s a nice community feel."
