10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have a sophomore currently and I am so happy with AHS relative to what I hear from friends at the closest two public high schools. It feels very chill during the day (not like a minimum security prison), most teachers do reach out and let you know what's going on in class (and you can get Aeries/Google Classroom updates should you desire), and we have found the PE & math "hot button" subjects to be very manageable. For the most part, the students come to school ready to learn and the average is high - which is good. Not all subjects are equally demanding, but also that's good too - it seems like students have the time to focus on the areas that demand more. Of course there have been two or three teachers (out of 13 our student has had so far) that have been not great. But there have also been three or four that I would say shoot for greatness and come close. It is hard to break in socially because the school doesn't do much (anything?) to have 9th graders mix purposefully. This is not unusual for public schools. It is also an open campus so your child has to be responsible and return to class, LOL. Ultimately, all I can say is I would be happy to have my younger child attend as well, and there's no higher praise, is there?Parent Review6mo ago - Albany Middle School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf your kid makes school authorities upset by their mischievous behavior or some sort of trouble which their childishness! Teachers bring your kid’s grades down and marked as absent nor tardy while they in class entire time. This makes me sick. Im on my tolerance mode so far Hope my kid finishes middle school without any issues.Parent Review1y ago - Cornell Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBeware this school is a nightmare. Children are bullies both girls and boys. Teachers aren’t any better. Administration is poor and always changing. Read “Accountable” by Dashka Slater! It’s like that but worse.Parent Review7mo ago - Marin Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur child attended Ocean View from Kindergarten through 5th grade, and we could not recommend a better place to send your child to school! Nestled in a fairly affluent suburb of Oakland/San Francisco, Albany boasts of excellent schools (and that is why we chose to move here). The community is quite small, so “people talk”, and boy do they when it comes to comparing the 3 Elementary Schools (insert eye roll). Compared to the other 2 Elementary Schools, Ocean View is perceived as the underdog—(but we attribute this to “White Flight” and self-segregation). Boo on YOU, Albany!! Upon touring Ocean View’s campus, we were astounded by its incredibly diverse student body, creative, caring and TALENTED teachers, and it’s warm, welcoming atmosphere! And did I mention the teachers?! I have never experienced a more dedicated, loving, reflective, adaptive and inspiring staff! We especially appreciated the teachers’ focus on identity, culture and social justice. Take all of that and wrap it up with a bow of a bustling school garden, and class pets like “Corn Chips” the guinnea pig, and you’ve got yourself a winner of a school! Our child made friends from all backgrounds, from all parts of the world, and developed an amazing social skill set because of that! We’ve made friends for life at Ocean View (both our child and ourselves). Ocean View was, quite truly, our second home...and we will forever cherish our time spent there. And, by 2021 Ocean View will have been completely re-built and modernized. If you live in Albany, do yourself a favor...think for yourself, and give Ocean View a look (it’s Albany’s best kept secret). You won’t regret it; I know WE didn’t!Parent Review3y ago - Check out schools near 411 Stannage Ave #8.
