I graduated from this school, have a mother who has taught at this school since it opened, and have also substitute taught at this school and I must say that I will send my children here gladly. It is a small school with small class sizes. It is an environment where the child can know everyone in their class and the classes around their same age. The teachers are, for the most part, fair and interested in helping your child. There are very few fights and I have never felt threatened in the school as a student or as faculty. They have recently hired a lot of new, young teachers that are very enthusiastic about their jobs and excited for their students. All in all, South Lamar is not a perfect school, but I feel it is a safe environment of adults that want to help your children learn, if your children are willing and ready to do their fair share of the work. They also have a good athletic program, especially for girls, with coaches that care more about their players than winning ball games. As far as the allegations of cliques, people are always quick to say this, however, I challenge you to find a school who has no cliques and have fun getting your child into that school.
