5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI live in the Service neighborhood area, but I chose to go to West High for a reason. I am currently a 9th grader. West has the best students in Alaska by a landslide. It has the only IB program, the only Highly Gifted program, and some of the best sports teams in the state. It has so many opportunities for students to take. Through my first semester, my teachers have been great. If something is wrong, just talk to them and they are more than happy to fix it. Most of the students in the neighborhood school program aren't the best learners, or at least aren't motivated to learn. However, motivated students have options for a high level of learning. West is in the Anchorage School District, which has had some problems with funding recently, so some programs may be cut. However, I would still recommend West as the high school of choice in Anchorage. If it is too long of a drive, Service High and South High aren't bad options either.Student Review3w ago - Check out schools near 1640 East St.

"Friendly and calm. It is very close to parks and the downtown. Good neighborhood for families. But don’t leave things in the yard that they can disappear. "

"I feellike our neighbors look out for each other. I walk my little dog every day and night and we often see other dogs and owners. The neighbors are friendly and helpful. The proximity to the museum, mall, and restaurants, the Fire Island Bakery and Sagaya makes it a wonderful location."

"Dotted with Parks and connected by the Coastal trail, Bootlegger's offers views from the Port of Anchorage to the International Airport; and of the incredible tides of the lower Knik Arm with Mt. Susitna and Mt. Spurr and the Alaska Range across the water. Some of the finest dining in the city - both casual and formal - borders the area. Many community events are only a few blocks away. Bootlegger living allows one to be both "in" the city, while also on the very edge of civilization with some of the most amazing views around. "

"This is a great place to live with City Markets regular crowd of characters. The coastal trail at the end of the street leading to Westchester lagoon, hiking, biking, running, or walking. All friendly locals who love to walk everywhere. And then they put in Fire Island bakery around the corner....what a treat!"
