DGK is a warm school , the kind where everyone knows your name and your child's name. The teachers and all the staff are helpful and always there for you. It is a true community and I am glad to be a part of it.

My son and daughter attend Adelphia Academy, in the middle and lower school. I am extremely happy with every aspect of the school, from the leadership, curriculum and facility. The Head of School and the leadership team are very hands on and clearly demonstrate they care about our children. The school conducts a lot of activities in support of the community and encourage our children to be thoughtful citizens. The school hosts many activities on campus for parents. The teachers are very supportive of the children and do a great job of educating them. My children can articulate the work they are doing during the day. This may sound routine but in their previous school, when I speak to my children about their day, they routinely talk about lunch and playing in the park as the main activities of the day. The teachers at Adelphi find many ways to engage them, and my children have developed a special bond with them. The curriculum is extremely rigorous and because of the small class environment, my children are challenged in each of their courses while also getting the support they need to succeed.Special education is very difficult for schools to implement. Every child with special needs requires a customized program to address their needs. Special education cannot be treated in a generalized way where children are forced into a few programs based on the recommendations of a team that has not only never even met my child and expected to succeed as seen in the public school environment. Adelphi’s Achieve Program is superior, they set high standards for achievement for my child, and they provide the scaffolds and supports to enable her to reach her goals. This is very different compared with another private school in the area where their special education program involves offering some support, but they set goals artificially low for children to reach, just to demonstrate progress. I have a unique perspective of Adelphi, as I have a child in the general education program and one in the Achieve program. I have also experience with the D20 public school environment and another private school in Bay Ridge that markets a special education program. Adelphi compares favorable across the board, and I am more than happy with the move we made to Adelphi. I find Adelphi’s small close-knit community very refreshing and because of that my children are supported when they need it and can spread their wings. Adelphi Academy is truly the little school of big dreams.

Incredibly supportive environment. I wouldn't send my child anywhere else.
