Davis Square is a neighborhood in Somerville, about five miles northwest of downtown Boston and two miles north of Mid-Cambridge.

The neighborhood takes its name from its major intersection and shopping hub, Davis Square.

Davis Square has a mix of new and old homes, including many in Italianate, Queen Anne, and Federal styles.

There are also a lot of small multi-family buildings, including double- and triple-deckers.

Many of Davis Square’s streets are tree-lined, but front yards tend to be small.

Davis Square is adjacent to Tufts University and is also close to several other colleges, so a lot of students live here.

This area first boomed when commuter trains arrived in the 1870s.

Since the Red Line was extended to Davis Square in 1985, the neighborhood has experienced another upswing.

Davis Square hosts a flea market, a Wednesday farmers’ market, and several festivals throughout the year.

Cycling is made easier with prominent bike lanes and the car-free Somerville Community Path.
