La Sierra is a neighborhood in southwestern Riverside, about 10 miles from downtown.

In 1922, La Sierra University was founded here. The school held onto much of the surrounding farmland until the 1990s.

Development kicked into high gear in the ’90s, when the Riverwalk master-planned community added thousands of homes and apartments.

The Shops at Riverwalk added retail and office space to the area.

Most housing in La Sierra is made up of single-family homes, some of which sit on rural-style lots.

Condos and apartments can also be found near the university and along Magnolia Avenue.

A huge mall just off Highway 91 attracts shoppers from all over the city.

There’s also an amusement park, an ice rink, and more shopping nearby.

La Sierra’s six parks have playgrounds, basketball courts, and picnic areas.
