South Pasadena is a neighborhood adjacent to Old Pasadena, the historic heart of the city.
The neighborhood is not to be confused with the city of South Pasadena, just south of here.
The eastern part of the neighborhood is sometimes called South Lake, after its main shopping street.
This is also home to CalTech, where roughly 1,000 students study science and engineering.
Gold Line trains pick up commuters at the Del Mar and Fillmore stations before continuing to downtown L.A., 11 miles away.
Housing here is mostly single-family homes, ranging from American colonial to Spanish style houses.

There are also some small condominium and apartment buildings.
An area called Oak Knoll is known for its historic homes, some of which were designed by the famous Greene & Greene brothers.
Historic Route 66 runs right through the neighborhood’s commercial district, which is filled with local businesses.
