Originally designed and built in 1902 by celebrated Denver architect William E. Fisher and his business partner, Daniel Huntington, the house was first sold to partners in business and brothers Jacob and Roche Savageau. The successful b...usinessmen purchased two houses side by side, with Roche Savageau residing at 1368 Gaylord for over a decade. Architect and designer of theresidence, Fisher was well known early in his career for his popular designs of Dutch Colonial Revival "bride delight's," starter homes for newlyweds. He quickly established an esteemed reputation in Denver, designing homes for the well-to-do, in addition to apartment and commercial buildingsmany of them still a prominent fixture of the Denver community. Fisher is best remembered for his construction of the Denver City Tramway Building on 14th Avenue, Morey Junior High School and South High School, the JC Penney Building on Broadway, the US National Bank/Guaranty Bank Building on 17th Avenue, and the Country Club House on 1st Ave and University. Fisher also left an indelible legacy in his design of numerous houses, churches, and synagogues. This home remains as truly a fine example of Fisher's expert craftsmanship and design. As the Office of Archeological and Historical Preservation has stated regarding Fisher's influence on the Denver landscape, "It is doubtful that many architectural firms have left such a legacy. Certainly there is no other in Colorado."
