8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGoing to AHS was the best decision I could have made. My family open enrolls from the Gilbert school district to attend better schools and I have had an amazing experience. The opportunities are vast, and there are countless ways to get involved. People do not have a hard time finding friends and it is possible to do so many different things. For example, band kids can also be sports stars and your interests do not define you at Ames High. Compared to other schools, bullying is not a problem at AHS and everyone has friends. Compared to some of the stories I’ve heard from friends who go to Gilbert, where many students have a hard time fitting in Ames, they will decide to come to Ames and have an excellent experience. I would recommend AHS to anyone, whether they live in the Ames district or not.Student Review2w ago8 Reviews - Meeker Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended AMS from 2019-22. It was an excellent experience. The teachers care and the opportunities are superior to other schools in Iowa. I felt well prepared for high school and made great friendships. The school building is nice and the administration is great. Recently, my sister went through AMS and had an amazing 3 years getting involved with band and choir. The band program at AMS is the best in the state, winning major awards and having countless students selected for top placement in honor bands.Other Review2w ago8 Reviews - Check out schools near Zzzz.

"Everything is walking distance. Parks, food, stores, post office, city hall and the library, but still close enough to hear Jack Trice on game day! "

"Easy access to the interstate or highways from any part of town. I usually commute to West Des Moines and it's usually an easy 40-minute drive. Still plenty close to the Des Moines area without being in it. "

"Many, many dog owners and lovers in the neighborhood. Dog walking is a common, daily activity for most of these people. Even non dog owners seem to like to see the dogs out and about. Owners are conscientious about picking up after their pets."

"Many dog owners walk this street to get to the park in the neighborhood. It’s a perfect place to walk dogs. Many people here have dogs."

"Parks are leash-only, but observant and respectful owners can have their dogs off-leash. Lots of good sidewalks and open prairie for dogs to sniff around. "

"There is currently a park for kids with special needs being built, lots of young families, and not what you would assume of a college town."

"This is within easy walking distance to Iowa State’s campus. I usually bike unless it’s raining or snowing, and that ride is super quick. It’s also a very short drive to HyVee for groceries. "

"I’ve lived here for 2 years. It’s ISU owned housing so we have most amenities. It’s near Greek housing so there is a large party scene on the weekends. It’s also near Lincoln Way so it can be loud."
