"Horrible Neighborhood, trying to move and live where people actually care about where they live. There are no events, neighbots throw trash in the yard, steal your trash cans and will walk right across your yard"
  • Nikita B.
"History makes my neighborhood unique with all the old houses and I don’t mind living here for the rest of my life because in the winter it’s beautiful "

"I live in the Historic Dayton View neighborhood. I moved to the area in 1998 at the height of the City's Rehabarama and remain in the neighborhood. So here are my thoughts or review of my neighborhood. Like many urban communities we have experienced flight from these beautiful historic homes when the economy turned. There are many wonderful historic homes here looking for loving care and those willing to help rebuild what was once a vibrant community. In general, the streets are pretty well lit. Lawns are fairly well maintained (where occupants still reside). And there are many good friendly diverse people choosing to make this community home. This engagement can be seen through our fairly active neighborhood association which meets monthly at the 5th district police department. Yes, they are one of our neighbors! :-) Safety: I am able to comfortably walk alone with my dog in the early morning and also at night. There were two occasions which I needed assistance from the police (2000 and 2009) and they were very responsive and friendly. What were those 2 occasions? 2000, an attempted break-in (I traveled quite a bit and the person noticed my car was gone for a few days.) and 2010 to thwart a drug buy from people not of my neighborhood! (I could tell by the license plates. :-) ) Pet friendly: yes. We who are dog owners love OUR dogs and LOVE that our neighbors respect one anothers animals and property. Restaurants & Shopping: Terrible. We have one of those dollar store chains, gas station and Rally's at a major intersection. We are sorely missing a grocery store in the neighborhood. However its a quick trip to the downtown street market! To summarize, if you are a fan of "This Old House" then you'll love Historic Dayton View! Come on give us a try!"
