Our experience at the elementary level has been somewhat better compared to the upper grades, and there are staff members who clearly care about the students and do their best each day.However, one of the biggest concerns we have is the lack of a clear long-term plan for students as they progress through the district. While the elementary years may feel stable, it becomes increasingly uncertain as children get older.This creates a real challenge for families. As students move into the upper grades, more and more families begin to explore other options in search of stronger academic opportunities and better resources. As a result, friend groups begin to break apart, and students are left navigating constant changes in their social and academic environments.That type of instability is difficult for kids. It impacts not only their education, but also their sense of consistency and belonging within the school system.While there are positives at the elementary level, it is hard to separate that experience from what lies ahead. Without a stronger long-term vision and improved resources in the upper grades, it is difficult to feel confident about staying in the district through graduation.For families considering the district, I would encourage looking at the full K–12 picture and thinking ahead to what the experience will be like not just now, but several years down the road.

Our family moved to the area about five years ago and initially chose this district because we believed a smaller school environment would provide a strong sense of community and more individualized attention.At first, that seemed to be the case. However, over the past few years, our experience has raised significant concerns.From an academic standpoint, we began to notice gaps that became very clear when we transitioned two of our children to another district. Despite being among the higher-performing students here, they were noticeably behind their peers in key areas like math, reading, and science. While they were able to catch up, it highlighted inconsistencies in academic rigor and expectations.One of the most ongoing challenges has been the classroom environment. There appears to be inconsistent discipline and limited support for managing behavior, which can create disruptive and unproductive learning settings. This not only affects students who are trying to focus, but also puts teachers in a difficult position. From our perspective, many teachers care and are doing their best, but they do not always seem to have the support needed to maintain a consistent and effective learning environment.Social-emotional support also seems to be impacted by these same issues. When disruptive behavior becomes normalized, it can create stress for students and make it harder for them to feel comfortable and engaged in the classroom.It is also difficult to ignore the broader challenges the district is facing, including declining enrollment and ongoing funding concerns. These issues appear to be contributing to a more reactive environment rather than a proactive, long-term approach to improvement.To be fair, there are staff members who genuinely care about students. However, communication from the school has been inconsistent and, at times, lacking. Based on our family’s experience, those positives have not outweighed the larger, ongoing concerns.Because of these factors, we made the decision to move our children to another district, where we have seen significant improvements in both academic progress and overall experience. We have also decided to move our remaining child in the near future.Every family’s situation is different, but based on our experience, I would strongly encourage others to carefully consider all options and explore alternative districts to ensure the best possible environment and outcomes for their children.
