5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIn my experience the teachers are very nice, helpful, and understanding of students' education and well-being. It very much depends on the people you hang out with or the class that you're in that determines excitement/enthusiasm about what is being learned and I've heard many mixed reviews from other students, so I can't speak for the whole student population for the better or worse. I've also heard mixed reviews about the counselors but I've had nothing but good experiences with them myself. There are regular calls, meetings, and other opportunities for family engagement, and accommodations are made for students with both mental and physical disabilities. I'm not exactly what to say about safety: I've never felt unsafe, and I've never seen or known someone to take a weapon to school (apart from the occasional accidental pocket knife), but fights aren't too infrequent (maybe 1-2/month, but I don't know, and I don't know what the average is). Just don't go around antagonizing people or calling others offensive or racist slurs and you should be okay; the general population is patient and understanding, but everyone has a limit. Overall this is a pretty good school with a neutral-positive environment, many good teachers, good programs, and lots of student resources.Other Review9mo ago34 Reviews - Shirakawa (George, Sr.) Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a parent, I truly appreciate the care, dedication, and support this school has shown my children and our family. The principal, teachers and staff work hard to create a positive and welcoming environment where students feel seen, encouraged, and supported academically and emotionally. What stands out most is the sense of community. The staff genuinely care about student success and take the time to communicate with families and support each child’s growth. I’ve seen my children build confidence, friendships, and valuable skills during their time here.I also appreciate the opportunities the school provides for students to get involved through activities, events, and leadership experiences. It’s clear that many staff members go above and beyond for their students. No school is perfect, but overall, our experience has been positive, and I’m grateful for the educators and staff who continue to pour into our children every day. I love this school and school district. Thank you for all that you do for our students and families.Parent Review1mo ago26 Reviews - Check out schools near W Capitol Expy.

"There's a park near the entrance to the neighborhood, there are children's playgrounds, basketball court, and bbq pits & tables. There have been numerous small parties and some sports on the field. Many times, we have gathered on certain holidays to watch fireworks, enjoy a bonfire, pass by with walking cute & exotic dogs, and sometimes participate with HOA in Open House availabilities."

"Tons of unhoused encampments. Sometimes they take dogs. Dogs go missing here all the time. Nextdoor is helpful to posting lost & found."

"Too much construction (extended). I. The direct flight path of the airport, and right next to the railroad tracks. You get used to it, and the homes are new and over 2k sq ft. Just depends if you can live life in paradise in the hood. "

"Homeless encampments under overpasses and around property boundaries is a common issue. Wild animals (skunks, possoms, coyotes) come out at night. Be sure to bring your pets in at night if you love them."
