8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI haven't had a very positive experience in this school system. The most positive factor, however, would be the student body. I used to be bullied a lot but through time and patience, I earned a respect from my peers. I enjoy sharing hallways with them on a consistent basis and many of them have their own quirky traits that make projects enjoyable. The school presents assignments in a way that suggests that if you miss one you are on a path to failure, this was worse to me than other students because I tend to take responsibilities seriously. This caused me many health problems because I would obsess over projects with too little time and that required too much work. One class, I took actually broke me and dragged all my other grades down as I just tried to drag my grade up to a D so I would pass. I would spend countless hours on those assignments just to do poorly, and the teacher did no help, they didn't teach. All I wanted from them was a lecture and all I got was movies and youtube videos teaching for them. I have had many issues with staff, however, most of the staff is decent at their jobs, some even care about what they teach and can bring excitement to the subject. I think the best courses in this school system are in the shop classes and weights class. They are absolutely wonderful and very informative in teaching. I used to be a goody-two-shoes with my homework and with getting it done but I have since learned better. This school system taught me that my health was worth less than anything involving the school. I was told when I went to talk to a counselor that I had approached for help, that I was struggling because I was stupid and not focusing enough of my time on the subject. When they said this, I was averaging 3 hours of sleep on a good night because all my time went towards the class. I stopped talking to family and friends and stopped playing any kinds of games or doing any kind of project I might enjoy because all my energy went towards school. I was losing weight because I couldn't even spare time to eat properly. I tried to get help but was constantly being told that I wasn't doing enough, sometimes I didn't even sleep. A note to anyone, I am not a normal person by any social means. I learn differently and that makes me a problem. Most kids will fit in this school well, but if your kid is unique or undiagnosed don't send them here unless you're a momma bear. You will have to be aggressive towards protecting your kid from rubbish.Student Review5y ago5 Reviews - Gerald Otte Blair Middle School

"We’ve had a mixed experience living in this neighborhood. On the positive side, it’s a beautiful, established area with mature trees and a surprising amount of wildlife. There are also a few truly kind and welcoming neighbors who make a real effort to build community. That said, the overall environment can feel very tense. Some neighbors are quick to report minor issues, and there seems to be a strong focus on enforcement rather than communication. We’ve experienced situations where concerns were escalated to the city almost immediately, rather than neighbors talking directly with each other first. For example, after a storm knocked down a tree on our property, we received a notice to remove it within 30 days—but it was difficult to even get a tree service scheduled in that timeframe. Situations like that can feel frustrating, especially when you’re already dealing with unexpected damage. There have also been instances where notes were left rather than having a conversation, which can make the neighborhood feel less welcoming. Overall, it’s a visually lovely neighborhood, but the experience can depend heavily on neighbor interactions. For those considering moving here, it may be worth understanding the expectations and level of enforcement ahead of time."
