Each year less classes were offered, the superintendent makes 6 figures while my language arts teacher quit to work as a cashier at Walmart because it paid more, all of the learning materials are extremely outdated and the curriculum is behind most similar schools and especially Des Moines area schools. This school did not prepare me in the slightest for college and despite being near the top of my class I flunked out of college my freshman year.

Middle school can be tough, but the overall atmosphere at KMS is inclusive with zero tolerance for bullying. Great teachers, especially in the music programs, wonderful staff over all. Plenty of good opportunities for trying things out from Mock Trial and Drama club to volleyball and wrestling.

West Elementary has made great improvements over the last several years with a change in leadership. We have had excellent teachers. I would have rated it 5 stars, but there are a few areas of improvement. First, the building is very math and reading focused and as a parent I rarely see anything come home about science or social studies. Second, I think the enrichment for students like my daughter who excel at math and reading is lacking.

This is an inclusive, clean, and vibrant school staffed with teachers, administrators and aids who are professionals with heart. My two kids attended this school and we are very pleased with our experience.
