"Our family has been going to Ashe county to vacation since 1999. Tubing or canoeing down the New River is fantastic. One time we even had fish jumping into our canoe. Wow!! The people are friendly and very welcoming. Boondocks/formally Fraiser is the place to dine. Through the years we have had many meals there and it has always been delicious. We go to Boone and Blowing Rock to shop or enjoy festivals. Gem mining in Foscoe is always a hit. When you pan the many rocks /gems, Kenneth Pickett will cut and set the your stone into a beautiful setting of your choice. We plan to retire in Ashe county when the time comes. Enjoy!!"

"Fresh air. Fresh water. Appalachian hiking trails are nearby. New River State Park for canoeing. Skiing slopes an easy drive. Gold-panning, gem-hunting, cave-exploring, B&B nearby with entertainment & exquisite dining... lovely views with four distinct seasons. Neighbors to give you fresh tomatoes off the vine...or grow your own. "
