Lyman S Kidder and his 10 man patrol along with a Sioux Indian scout, Red Beard, were massacred in the Northeastern part of Sherman County on the Beaver Creek. Their deaths were the first recorded event in Sherman County. This ranch featured the first homestead and post office in the county. This post office was the first post office north of Dodge City on the Great Western Cattle trail. Many native, trader, and buffalo hunter camps can still be found on this ranch. LocationThe ranch is located approximately 15 miles Northeast of Goodland, Kansas and 20 miles SE of St. Francis, Kansas on good county roads. The area is very good with production and farmland and the Beaver Creek provides good sub moisture and game. Goodland has a jet capable airport with excellent services for a small airport. Shopping and services are very good in Goodland and on the Interstate 70 interchange. Denver, Colorado is just 3 hours to the west via Interstate 70.
