Overall, Curlew is a cozy little school. Nice place, and I don't agree with the other reviews I have seen on here. (While I no longer attend this school I was here for 5+ years).LEARNING:Learning was one of the cons of the school. The teachers are great, don't get me wrong, but the repetitive nature of the work felt... underwhelming. I felt like I was repeating the same things year after year, and it did take a mentally exhausting toll on me.TEACHING:The teachers here are great, and very easy to get along with. They have good teaching methods, and all know how to be fun, good role models.SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SUPPORT:So this is more personal opinion than anything, but this school does have a knack for overlooking things, such as bullying and what-not. BUT THIS ONLY HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T TELL THEM. IF YOU TELL THEM THEY WILL HELP YOU, SO TELL THEM IF SOMETHING IS WRONG THEY WILL HELP. SPECIAL EDUCATION:While I was never in these categories, there were plenty of people dedicated to helping kids with special needs.SAFETY: Technically, there is good safety, but at the same time, there isn't. The staff I've noticed, have a tendency to overlook things, (especially if the issue is by a consistent trouble maker). It's almost like they give up on preventing issues from kids with a long history of harassment, trouble, etc. If it's a kid who has never gotten in trouble, and they suddenly do something bad, the staff is suddenly all over it, and they make too big of a deal over it (in my opinion). The punishing system is kinda wack too. They focus too much on smaller issues to address the larger issues at hand. While there isn't any 'legitimate' bullying, there certainly is a sense that if you don't meet certain requirements, your an outcast. More indirect, phycological bullying, if you get my drift. It's weird.FAMILY-ENGAGEMENT: Plenty of student led conferences, bingo nights, sports banquets, and the likes to get the family involved.
