9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIn the district Irving is a bright spot. However This listing is wrong there is no gifted and talented program. And our experience and that of others we know in district 97 is that the district does not take care of high achieving students. If you have a gifted student I do not recommend d97 schools. They fail to provide accelerated math within the school day without interrupting their schedules and/or at the expense of missing other subjects. In fifth grade they do not provide accelerated math in the elementary building, they bus students to the middle school and they have to miss other subjects and time with their peers in fifth grade. Opening has a great school community and wonderful teachers it's such a shame the district has many issues.Parent Review1y ago6 Reviews - Percy Julian Middle School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe new principal at this school is awful. He provides new teachers with no support, he doesn't come in the classroom to observe and give teachers feedback, and he is afraid to directly address problems he might have with other staff members. Yet he has the nerve to determine the standing of his staff over the most minor infractions, without doing anything to help them improve. The students also do not respect the new prinicpal because he is a spineless coward who will not address any issues directly.Teacher Review11mo ago17 Reviews - Oak Park & River Forest High School

"This is a fantastic place to live raising a teenager. My kid can walk to the high school, the public library, the movie theater, shops, restaurants. And when they’re older they can take the train downtown. It’s a great place to build autonomy safely. "

"In Oak Park, many of the home’s yards are smaller and there are few options to let your pet off leash. That’s all of the downside however. Oak Park is a beautiful community for walking a pet and there are a LOT of people out walking all the time. "

"I believe Oak Park caters to certain groups. The fact that even searching for Unit some folks are persecuted for their past mistakes. Sadly even Chicago has become that way. So much for equal opportunities for everyone. Not everyone wants to live in a roach infested , mice infested neighborhoods. People deserve to live in an clean environment."
