8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating Averageteachers are great I love coach Dunn and his way of thinking and explaining things. But I e been a student of Alcoa all my life and left my junior year to be homeschooled because of one teacher, Mrs. gorto she "teaches" marketing (my freshman year) and sports entertainment my sophomore year and I took hospitality my junior year so I could graduate with all marketing focus. Well.. I honestly don't know why I continued to take her classes she literally did nothing in that class she would sometimes show us a video and tell us to do a PowerPoint every single assignment was a power point. That gets boring after three years ! And she literally did not teach us a thing. We had a new "progect" everyday, and it was looking up on the internet what does this company do and why. What is that teaching us ..? I wasn't mad that we had to do work I was mad everyday that she let me and other students get picked on. When we had to present our PowerPoint for the class students had their phones out recording, posted online making fun of us with harassing comments. I told her about it and never did anything. This happened repeatedly and never did a single thing about it. And another thing that really bugged me, I had a doctors excuse for when I was out, and this teacher knew about my home situations cause I used to talk to her my first two years of high school about my health issues, I would miss assignments here and there but for the most part I did all my assignments, and she ever had this thing online where she would post the assignments so you could see what you missed and work on it on line (oh and we never did anything on paper all on computer, which half the class was on Facebook and YouTube ) well twords the end of the semester I was in the hospital, and I missed more than usual assignments and I was about to be homeschooled because it was too much to handle, I talk to her in private asking if I could make them up she said no! You were out and there's nothing you can do now she failed me when I was in the hospital, only this teacher thought being in the hospital wasn't a good enough reason all my other teachers passed me but not her. AND she wouldnt teach she was always on the computer checking her emails doing personal things order clothes, texting, listening to music. She told us go on this website so this and never talked to us until the next day. Terrible teacherStudent Review10y ago4 Reviews - Alcoa Middle School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been at several schools in the area now and SO glad that we have moved to Alcoa Schools. This is the most unique culture of learning my kids have ever experienced. There is a strong emphasis on developing the student as a whole and mentoring through the difficult middle school years. While there are some issues of clashing personalities amongst students, I think you will find that at any school these days. I’ve been most impressed with the relationships that teachers/staff form with students…holding them accountable and expecting best efforts in class and out. It is a true mentor/teacher community experience. The school is MUCH smaller than previous Knox Co schools my kids attended, which I believe contributes to staff’s ability to better connect and get the best out of each child. Teachers also seem happy here, which I cannot say about previous KCS schools. I saw a previous review that complained about all students being punished when some make bad choices. As a parent I actually like that-it encourages the kids to hold each other to higher standards and helps to prevent future incidents. Overall my kiddos are really thriving here; they are trying new things and having a great experience as students, friends, and athletes. Could not ask for anything more!Parent Review3y ago6 Reviews - Alcoa Intermediate School

"20 min to knoxville but all of the necessities are within 10 min drive. We have plenty of shopping, gas stations, restaurants, etc. there are plenty of places to work. Several parks and small fusing ponds are available for family outings. Also there is a 20+ mile Greenway for walking, running, and cycling."

"Traffic not too bad. Not a stressful commute since it is a small town. Main highway can be congested at peak traffic hours."

"So close to the Smokey Mountains and lakes and a lot of urban opportunities on the opposite side in Knoxville. "

"There are big quality rating disparities in schools from one town to the next. Home values reflect this fact. Resale values are greatly influenced by this too. There are ridges all over with fabulous views of the Smokey Mountains. Or no view at all due to trees. Always have to see it to really know. "

"I live in this neighborhood. I attended school here. This area is close and convenient to shopping, parks and walking/biking trails. Close to the McGee Tyson airport as well as downtown Knox. and west Knoxville shopping. A day trip to the smokey mts., Gatlinburg, outlet shopping in Pigeon Forge; not to mention Dollywood/splash country----cool right!"
