8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIn response to the review re; privilege. Our family of 4 (6th and 3rd grade) has had the privilege of attending Tuckahoe Elementary for several years standing now. My husband also attended this school 32 years ago. We in fact live on the “other side of Patterson” in a tiny 1230sq ft house and we do have immigrant neighbors and kids of lower socioeconomic standing, on our street. We’ve had opportunities to leave and move into a bigger place but we love the school so much, in the tiny house we stay. In the past few years, our school has worked very hard to understand the needs of everyone across the board. They have paid attention and given real consideration of what the way is and how to do it, in 2024. They have made great efforts to include everybody. I’ve noticed more the last two years, that there are so many more assignments and projects that have a global learning aspect and that’s just wonderful. We are global citizens. My son came home today showing me he had written Chinese Characters and their meanings. I’m half Korean so my kid studying Ancient China in 3rd grade is is so exciting to me. Which kids know what the character is for Love and can actually write it out? TES kids can! Recently there was a global quilt the kids did, where they were assigned a sheet of paper (quilt square) and they were to draw and color about their own family heritage and culture. And it was all put together like a quilt with everyone’s cultures joining each other. So sweet! I have been beyond impressed at how much TES has been teaching our kids about global citizenship! We are so super proud of our school! We also changed the TES mascot and it’s no longer an American Indian. We are one family and 5 houses. We are respectful, trustworthy, grateful, compassionate, courageous. Go TES! Go House Haathee! Any family would be very lucky to have an opportunity to attend this school. The Jones family loves TES. So much that this mom has forgone personal space just so we can be part of the school!Parent Review2y ago3 Reviews - Tuckahoe Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWell... let's just say this school is okay.Teaching: In all the other reviews I am reading everyone is saying how bad the teachers are, but in my experience I only had amazing ones. I don't think I am supposed to name names about who I had so I won't, but throughout my time here I have only heard a few bad things being said about the school's teachers. Social Emotional Support: I think this school support's students well-being pretty well. I have a friend who struggles with mental health and she told me she feels like she can really open up to her counselors. Each student is a assigned with a counselor and can easily set up meetings if you need to. In the middle of the year every student also submits a form about the social-emotional support at the school and what they think would make it better.Special Education: This school provides a pretty good special education program. There is a program called Helping Hands that some custodians and older students help with for the special education kids. I have also been in class with a few kids from that program and they seemed very happy, each one having their own custodian to help themSafety: Well we do drills and all, but I don't know if the safety is very well. I have seen multiple fights break out, but the adults have come and stopped it pretty quickly, there is like no discrimination at all (in my experience), and they don't give very harsh punishments. As for actually feeling safe, not really because it is an outdoor campus, but at the same time, at what school can you feel safe in at this age?Family Engagement: I feel like the school welcomes familes in learning pretty well! At every event parents can come and sit in the audience. I have also seen the PTA moms go crazy! lol! They also have parent-teacher conferences every quarter, and teachers will call family about your childs grades a lot.Learning: I mean the learning is pretty good. It is obviously not the most exciting thing cuz duh but like it is fine. They have a bunch of apps you can access at any time if a child needs any extra help like IXL or Lexia. But all in all I think this school is pretty good! I personally love being a tuckahoe patriot and I recommend it, and if you are in a different zone school in 5th you can apply to the IB program and you will most likely go here!Student Review10mo ago19 Reviews - Freeman High School

"Very beautiful nature quite serene, secure neighborhoods people are nice to everybody what Sam right car, generous people in the neighborhood there are condominiums apartments or restaurants. Here we have Sanfaute court here. We have a boat yard marina as well with boats and high-end boats, and we also have the racing boat here at the University of Richmond."

"Walking around the fan and looking at all the seasonal wreaths and decorations on beautiful old row houses doesn’t get old. It’s such a pretty neighborhood. From the fan it’s also not too far (~1 mile) to the lakes at Byrd park, which is also a great place to walk your dog. You can also walk to the fan vet! Lots of restaurants are within walking distance too, along with dentists, small parks, coffee shops, museums, and markets. I walk my dog to Carytown from the fan too (~1 mile). Sugar and Twine in Carytown makes dog treats, and many of the stores are dog friendly. There are fun neighborhood events like house tours, a block that closes for Halloween, and an art walk."

"This neighborhood isn’t built with pedestrians in mind. There are no sidewalks, leaving children and families without a safe path to walk or play. Streetlights are absent, making it dark and potentially hazardous after sunset. The lack of these basic amenities means the area isn’t walkable or friendly for those on foot. To get anywhere—whether it’s school, the store, or simply out for fresh air—having a car feels more like a necessity than an option. It’s a community designed for vehicles, not people, and it shows in how challenging it is to navigate without wheels. Quite limiting, don’t you think?"
